(OOC: If any of the ships doesn't have enough ammo for the crossbows Senllip will ask to divide resources between them. Same with manpower. Lastly, deal with magic and healing help: 1. Magic - Bayla can fly between ships and give support. Let's agree before the battle that that's what she expect to do. 2. Healing: If we want to "share" the healer, the ships need to be close and the healer should have mobility. To be close to each other is a disadvantage in battle tactics I think, so if we can't share the healer during battle, if there are any other means of preventing too much death, like healing potions and mundane herbs I would like to share these resources as well. What do you think?) In terms of ammo, the Salty Dwarf and Blue Diamond have around 140 bolts each, while the Blue Moon has around 40 bolts. In terms of crew, the Blue Moon has 5, the Blue Diamond has 13, and the Salty Dwarf has 15. Bayla can fly, but only 360 feet per round (and a C maneuverability class), so unless the ships are in a very tight formation, it will take her more than one round to fly between them. She cannot cast while in flight, so she would need to land first. What spells did you want her to prep? Same with Auli'i, do you want her to focus on healing only? The only way she can jump from ship to ship is if you keep them at a standstill, all next to each other with the gangplanks up, but keep in mind that means they cannot maneuver so they'll be sitting ducks. None of you have any healing potions that I can see, from your stat blocks.

Man I wish I had thought to try and get entangling stuff like nets or bolts that release nets......

So I guess we should split the bolts around 105 for each ship, give 35 from each cargo ship to blue moon. (or 33...) About manpower it is more problematic to "share" for two reasons: 1. Motivation - Usually no one wants to be moved around from team to team. 2. The 5 on the blue moon are superior and have more diverse and more synergetic roles than the cargo ships. But next time we recruit maybe we want to increase Blue Moon team as well, and we are still having the cargo ship lacking in functionality for battle. I understand the limitation. We will either survive it, or not.

Keep in mind, though, that the Blue Moon has considerably fewer crewmen so giving them more bolts is kind of a waste. They can only make 5 shots a round anyway, whereas the Salty Dwarf can fire 15 times in a round and the Blue Diamond can fire 13 times a round. So if each ship has 105 bolts, that means the Salty Dwarf will run out after 7 rounds, where as the Blue Moon will run out after 21 rounds.
Same with the crew, different ships require different amounts of people. The Blue Moon requires a minimum crew of 8, meaning Bayla, Auli'i and even Kalana have to work as crewmen to keep it running. The cargo ships, however, require a minimum crew of 10. If a ship drops below that minimum, they are considered a skeleton crew and suffer penalties to maneuverability, speed and combat. If they drop too low, they become dead in the water. For the Blue Moon, that's less than 4 crewmen. For the cargo ships, that's less than 5 crewmen.

You are correct. I didn't consider these issues. So, let's keep things as they are.

Not sure if you are all aware of this, but light crossbows can only fire once per round anyway. Speaking of which, HorizonsDream, you want to throw in an attack and damage roll in your post?

Well, it makes sense since it is hard to load the bolts. Is it possible to shoot every round one bolt? or does it take another full round to load the next bolt (which means one bolt every two rounds)?
If it is the first there is no real point to the instruction given before, but if it is the latter then on each round only half people shoot and the other half are loading and at the coming round the loading half is ready to shoot while those who shot before can now load and there is no round where the enemy is safe from having bolts targeting it.
Thanks.

Not sure if you are all aware of this, but light crossbows can only fire once per round anyway. Yes I was aware of that but made sure to order that the crew only fires one then waits. I might not have them fire every round to save on ammo.

Just clarifying. And yes, light crossbows can be fired and reloaded in a single round (ROF 1/1). Heavy crossbows require a full round to reload, though (ROF 1/2).

Yeah that is one reason I have held off from ever using heavy crossbows.

Kalana's comment reminded me, I added Bayla's and Auli'i's stat blocks to the Character Stats threads a few weeks back, so you can see what spells they have now.

For Bayla I think wall of fog & fog cloud may help to hide the people, but on the other hand, will the fog stand a buff of the dragon wings or immediately dissipate? Rid the wind may help Kalana "fly" and ride the dragon as she planned (just guessing from the name) and Silence on the dragon may prevent it from casting spells, although I'm not sure if young black dragon does cast spells...
Aui'li have many spells that can boost Kalana stats and several attacking spells like produce flame, flame blade, sunscortch and so on. I think using 'bless' and protection from evil immediately will help Kalana.

For Bayla I think wall of fog & fog cloud may help to hide the people, but on the other hand, will the fog stand a buff of the dragon wings or immediately dissipate? Wall of Fog can be dissipated with a strong wind. A moderate wind will reduce its duration by half. Fog Cloud is the same way. However, Bayla does not have either spell memorized currently, so it's a moot point for now. Rid the wind may help Kalana "fly" and ride the dragon as she planned (just guessing from the name) and Silence on the dragon may prevent it from casting spells, although I'm not sure if young black dragon does cast spells... True on both counts, but again, Bayla does not have either of those spells memorized currently. Aui'li have many spells that can boost Kalana stats and several attacking spells like produce flame, flame blade, sunscortch and so on. I think using 'bless' and protection from evil immediately will help Kalana. Unfortunately, Auli'i does not currently have Produce Flame, Flame Blade, Bless or Protection from Evil memorized currently. She does have Sunscorch, however. I will add, though, for future reference that when used on a ship Bless affects the entire crew instead of just the party, so that's handy.

Oh, right, I forgot to mention. Although these are young dragons, they are still 20' long (size H), so use the L-sized damage dice for your weapons if you haven't done so already.
