"His name is Ulster Redbow, sir. Have you heard of him?" Barlemus asks, genuinely curious. He always wondered if his master was famous or not. Barl had never heard of him previously, but he hadn't heard of much of the outside world, either, at that point. "I guess he saw something in me."

"Many of the Waukenar have lost heart since it has been so long since we have heard from Our Lady of Gold. But my heart tells me she is still out there, working to return. My prayers are still answered, and so I work to uphold her interests and wait for her return.
And how better to serve The Golden Lady than protecting the merchants of Waterdeep?", Nobanion says, a proud smile playing across his handsome features.

GreyWolfVT ”I hear the Dalemen believe the fourth time is the charm for any hard to accomplish task. Perhaps this group will see you through with good marks. As for that pirate cleaver, nasty bit of metal. But it will certainly see you through the night.” Gar grunts, “Yes, practically an axe, and I like axes!” The two men continue down the line. Justin Tyme Gar barks a hard laugh and even the Captain smiles. “Excellent, Excellent! I like this one!” The two men continue to chuckle as they move on. Gar hasn’t even thought his statement could be considered offensive, now he has a new set of jokes loaded and ready for the mess hall. “I meant the fishmongers, damned if that wasn’t a better meaning!!” @daos ”Note that name Gar. I would like to see if we are dealing with a second generation watchman here. It does seem a bit familiar. That master of yours got both ears? What about a wonky right hand, like it was attached wrong after some sorta accident or bad business.” Kvard51 ”I’m am humbled in the presence of one so faithful. Say a prayer for us all, the city is addressing the issue of a military wide raise in pay. If the lady is still listening, maybe she can help these good folks get a bit my coin in their pouches.” Gar nods. “As long as she lets you knit wounds closed, it matters little to me where she’s at.” @group The two men step back and take a long hard look at the group. Sunny turns to his Gar and pronounced firmly. “Acceptable." Gar nods and reaches into a small burlap bag he carries and pulls out a blue glass disc. He shakes his head and almost sadly gives it to Nobanion. After a few more minutes the inspection is over and Sunny Sunriver takes the podium. “Each group now holds a different colored disc. A sergeant here in the guard hall holds a matching disc and your duty assignment for the evening. Each sergeant in turn will come to the podium, hold up the colored disc, and then take the group to the appointed station. Some of you may be disappointed by your assignments, but remember, the important thing is the job that you do, not where you do it. If any of you have doubts about your ability to perform your duties tonight you are free to leave . . . No? Then raise your right hand and repeat after me: As an initiate of the Night Watch . . . I do solemnly swear . . . to use my mind and body . . . to maintain a peaceful . . . law-abiding atmosphere ... in my assigned sector . . . I swear to break no laws . . . or take any per- sons life . . . while on duty tonight . . . I give my oath. . . as a member of the Night Watch. May the gods hold favor with you." One by one a sergeant steps up to the podium, raises the colored disc, and shouts out the color. Each then moves toward the door to meet their party. Slowly the hall begins to empty until you realize you’re the only group left.

"Gosh, it never occurred to me that my master might have been a watchman. He never talked about his past, though," Barlemus says. "Had both hands and ears, though, so I dunno."
After repeating the oath, he eagerly waits with the others for their color to be called. "I got a good feeling about ours. Blue is a great color, yeah?" he says to the others.

Tagon repeats the oath as instructed with near militant precision. "Well appears we're in lads."

As he completes the oath, Nobanion smiles. The next step down the path to figuring out his life is taken. Now to make a name for himself in the Watch.
"I'm happy to be working with such an interesting group. The blessings of The Golden Lady upon us all! But for now, I'm off to claim a bed and stow my gear before our watch."

Finally the last sergeant, one with a blue plume walks up to your group and holds up the blue disc, shakes his head and says, Sorry, its just the luck of the draw. Come on, The Veil is already rolling in . . ."
He gestures for you to follow him and leads you to the barracks. “I recommend you all bed down together. Makes patrols easier, makes promotion easier. That back corner will likely do you.” He waits a few minutes for you to sort out sleeping arrangements, and to stow any excess gear you’ld like before heading out of the bay and heading towards a large store room.
“I’m Sergeant Luath. I’ll be you adviser as supervisor. The blue disk means you’ve drawn a rough assignment. You’ll need some extra gear. Oltown wouldnt be where I’d want to start, but its as good as any. Some decent people still live in Oltown you might hear some call it Fishtown. Most problems lie with the sailors passing back and forth. Few things you should know, though. You‘be got three areas to cover.” He holds up on finger.
”First, theres Oltown itself. That’ll be a handful in The Veil. Try not to start any trouble at the Silver Lily. It’s a favorite of ships captains, and any trouble there could give our great city a bad name all across the seas. There’ll still be some sellers at the fishmarket. Stop, say hello to them. Remember, its them youre protecting.“ He holds up a second finger. ”Secondly, the warehouses ought to be pretty quiet tonight. The Gardens of Opulent Splendor lie between the warehouses and Crows Foot. He holds up a third finger.
“Crows Foot shouldnt be a problem. Its a small residential area that lies north along the coast. Most of the market vendors live there, and a tavern or two can be found, mostly so people dont have to walk through the warehouses and the Gardens over to Oltown. Should be pretty quiet around Crows Foot, as usual.” He sighs and looks at you all sternly.
“Now, the Gardens, thats another story. The Gardens have been turned into a group of temporary embassies for new diplomats traveling to Waterdeep to open up new routes of trade. Be warned, embassies represent their native soil and the laws of each of the diplomats home countries are observed in their area of the Gardens. Entering one without an invitation is punishable by death in some cultures, so be careful. Its easier if you just try to steer clear of the Gardens! My patrol with the City Guard will be focused there. Ah here we are” He gestures to the storage area.
The front of the room was enclosed by a set of large iron bars, making it look like half a wild animal cage. Inside you can clearly make out stacks of armor, racks of weapons, and crates of gear. “So about that gear...seems Oltown has a few rumors of man rats tromping about. We lost a patrol out their last week. As such, you’ve been granted a writ to draw magic truncheons. Present your blue disk to the quartermaster and he’ll issue the weapons. You’ll need to sign for them. The Watch expects them back.”
”Wendel, WENDEL! Come on man, issue the truncheons so me and the new guys can get gone.” A large man, well past his street duty prime huffs over to you and silently gestures to a stack of forms beside the opening to the cage. He’s breathing heavily as he shuffles off to gather the requested gear.

Dirk says the oath, pins his token, signs the form, accepts his club and flips it over, spinning it about - behind his back and over his shoulder. "This'll do," he says with a wry grin. "No jokes about me taking the bottom bunk if you want to keep your organs from leaking." He then heads off with his companions.

Tagon presents the disc and takes the truncheon unsure of how to carry the thing he tries to put it in his belt similar to his sword. He signs any papers required and dutifly accepts his charge. "Bottom bunk for me if you don't mind. I'm stout and I would rather not be climbing to a top bunk." he replies to the rest of the group.

Nobanion signs for the truncheon with a grin on his face. "This is going to be interesting duty, if they are already handing out the magic weaponry."
He hefts the weapon in his grip, "Thank you Wendel. Is this where we requisition other items, at need?"

Barlemus also signs out for a truncheon. He already has a club, but this one looks fancier, and he likes the idea of looking all official for his first patrol.

Wedel doesn’t speak, he simply nods as an answer while gesturing to his cage.
“Alright recruits, I’m gonna walk you to the gates of the Dock Ward...Oltown. Most important thing to remember is to enforce the laws, without breaking em.” He turns and steps lively to exit the barracks.
“The Blue disk serves as your badge, and allows you to reach out to me while your out and about. Rub it three times and when the disk warms up we can speak.” He shows you a matching disk he carries around his neck. Then Marches our to the parade yard.
“You boys got questions?”

"Right, the laws," Barlemus repeats. "Gotta enforce the laws. I mean, ut, that's pretty obvious, right?" He chuckles nervously. He considers asking what the laws they are supposed to be enforcing are, but worries he might sound stupid if he asks that.

Tagon "Just to verify we keep the peace and the law, arrest anyone violating the laws without breaking them ourselves. Sounds cut and dry to me. If we run into any trouble we contact you. If we arrest anyone we bring them back here correct sir? How long is the patrol shift for sir?"
