As you exit the parade ground Serveant Luath picks up a lantern. It’s stamped with the cities symbol. He hands it to Nobanion. “Yeah, that’s the gist, the laws are simple here. No killing, no thieving, and definitely stuck away from messing to much with the guilds.” He Continues to walk you to the Dock ward. “If you run into anyone you need to lock up, you can bring them back...or call me with the disk. I’ll route someone to you to acquire the accused. You will report to me before turning in, shift is til the first hour after dawn.” “Use the lantern to light your way where you can. It will help in the Veil. It also serves as a uniform of sorts. Make sure you return to me in the morning. Here are the Ward Gates. This is as far as I go. Youre on your own now, and remember . . . think before you act. Dont use force unless its absolutely necessary. You’re bound by the same laws as those you’re protecting. And, if theres one thing I’ve learned its that everything happens for a reason. Ships sink because they have a hole in them, not because they feel like sinking. A word of advice: None of the groups who ever asked for help were ever asked to join the City Guard. Keep your wits about you, and be careful." Sergeant Luath then turns and walks away into the thickening Veil. His voice echoes back to you for just a second. “Follow the route on the map.” —————— City Crest

"Ut, this is exciting," Barlemus says to the others. "Should we get started? Where does the map say to go first?"

Nobanion lights the lamp and looks at the map. "I think following the map's path is our best bet, particularly since our handler just told us to follow the map."

"Ahh, Nobanion - you are more than a pretty face. Wise beyond your years. I will take point. Do try to keep up." With that Dirk begins walking on the path.

Q'uon falls in line behind the halfling so he may fire bow or spell above the head of his shorter companion.

As you step out through the City Gates you are assaulted by the smell of seawater and day-old fish. The harbor fish market stands to your left and the warehouses to your right. Many of the stalls are closed or are in the process of closing.
Those that are open perk up seeing the light of your lantern pierce the oncoming Veil, the streets lamps flare with magic and begin to burn back a bit of the mist. Your band attracts the attention of several vendors.
Stall 1 A well weathered man with skin the color of sun baked brown leather calls out to you. “Aye, my good lads and lassies. Ive got some good squid for ye today." He picks up a handful of squid, Let ye have it real cheap. Say a copper a handful. Squish! Squish! He breaks off a tentacle and pops it into his mouth. The tentacle squirms as he chews, They be delicious! Still kickin they is . . . yum!“ He smiles and gestures for you all to move towards him.
Stall 2 A matriarchal good wife gestures and waves you towards her stall. “Nice redfish for a young noble perhaps? They be very fresh. Look, they still have their eyes open. Thats how you can tell theyre fresh. Yes sir, never sell sleepin fish, my dad always said. A silver a piece, or half for half. Remember, you can lead a herring to water, but you’ld better get him there fast or he’ll die.” She looks to Tagon and throws him a wink while waving you all forward. “Back again my bearded friend?!?”
Stall 3 Two girls in their mid teens make eyes at Nobanion and Barlemus. Both girls are red headed and freckles, built in that awkward teenage way. "Exotic shells, kind sir? Very beautiful, no two alike. I collect them and my sister makes them into jewelry." The crafting sister steps forward and shows the two of you what she thinks are the best pieces. “What about you my dashing Halfling friend, how about a pair of seashell earrings for you lady?”
Stall 4 A gruff looking stall hand comes forward. His stand has several unique looking shells stacked around it. He heads straight to Q’uon. “Hail my good Shou! How blessed we are to have an Elven prince of The Unapproachable East! You’re got’s a conch shell for da Veil? How you’se gonna find you’se same self in da Veil wit out one?"

Barlemus takes in a deep, cleansing breath of that salt air and old fish smell. "Ut, smells like home," he comments, in very good spirits despite the gloomy fog.
At first, he's very tempted by the man with the squid. Barlemus had heard of squid before, but the fishermen he grew up with usually didn't delve deep enough to find any. Consequently, despite having grown up living on seafood, he had never had any.
However, before he can approach, he's led astray by the alluring giggle of young women. Although they looked a bit young for him, redheads (and freckled at that!) were his one true weakness. The squid forgotten, he approaches their stall instead. "Wow, some collection you got here," he comments, looking over their wares. "Reminds me of Torros. That's the village I grew up. It's a small fishing town on the Sword Coast," he explains for the umpteenth time. "You got any pendants? I bet my mom would like one. How much? You collect and make these yourselves? Must be a lot of work. I'm Barlemus, by the way. Barlemus Wharfman. Just joined the Nightswatch, so you two can rest easy as long as I'm on the job," he says, unable to not flex at least a little. It felt nice to be admired and fawned over, and since they were just teenagers, he didn't find them as intimidating as women his own age.

Dirk smiles. He sees that Barlemus is getting as red as the hairs on the heads of the girls. "Ladies. Torros here does not do himself justice. Do you realize who you are talking to? Why it's the very hero of the Sword Coast. We are honored that he chose our ranks or the lot of us would not be part of the Watch if it weren't for him. You best find him a deal on one earring so you can deliver the other later - if'n you get my meaning."

Barlemus wasn't expecting Justin to jump in and hype him up, and he wasn't sure why, but he didn't want to question it. So he puffs up his chest to try and look impressive, although he doesn't really get the earring remark himself, personally.

Tagon nods to the good wife "Back yeah, back on watch. Hows business going?" he asks in return "No one's been causing any trouble around here right?"

Nobanion smiles at Barlemus' discomfort. The girls were pretty enough, if young for his tastes. But he had learned early to avoid entanglements of that sort, if he wanted to have enough money to advance in Waukeen's priesthood. He hailed Barlemus, gesturing with the lantern. "Come, come my friend. Leave the ladies to their business and let's be about the Masked Lord's, instead."

Q'uon is surprised that another knows of his heritage. He approaches the stall, bows shortly and says, "Greetings, sir. Might you explain the use of said shell and the cost?"
