Daos watches this all play out tensely, uncertain as to what will happen next.

Tristen almost misses the second attempt but an act of mercy of the gods or possibly luck he manages to hook the handle on the side away from the lizard it watches him with a very curious look and flicks it's tongue at him and stands like a statue mostly, watching what happens next.

Tristen nods in thanks to the lizard an offers a silent thanks to the gods. He drags the chest into the hall and closes the double doors. He turns to Narya, Checking this seems more your skillset.

Narya tries to pick the lock on the chest. She eventually is able to unlock it and opens the chest after checking to ensure it isn't also trapped. Once determined safe she opens it. The chest holds 33 cp, a scale mail tunic a light crossbow, and a case of 24 quarrels. 1d100TCMXVC9c

"Well...better than nothing, I suppose," Daos remarks. He personally has no use for armor or a crossbow, although perhaps they can be sold in town if nobody else can use them, either.

Good that neither us nor the creature had to be harmed to find that out as well.

"Indeed. So I guess all that remains now is that locked door we couldn't get open," Daos states. "I guess we'll either have to kick it down or knock politely and hope for the best. Somehow I doubt it would be that easy, though."

"If no one else wants the crossbow and armour, I suggest we move the chest to the main entrance hall and leave it there for now. Perhaps Daos could see if either of them is magic once we're ready to head back to Hommlet?"
"Once we've checked out the locked room or rooms, we also need to decide whether to proceed further today or whether we should set up camp before seeing if there's a dungeon below. If we set up camp, I suggest we bring our mules into the moathouse and pick a room where we can stash any finds we don't want to bring with us when we continue exploring."

Narya reminds "Let us not forget there were stairs as well that we passed."

"Indeed. That's why I'm fairly certain that there's more to this place than just the ground floor. Though it's conceivable that the stairs have collapsed or been blocked off," Roshek comments.

Narya nods her head agreeing with that assessment "And who knows what kinds of secret or trap doors this place might have had in it's glory days."

Daos raises his brow at Roshek's talk of secret dungeons and collapsed stairwells, as if he somehow already knew the layout of this place, even the areas they haven't investigated yet. "I would assume that the bandits are, if anywhere, behind that locked door. Aren't they the reason we were sent here in the first place?"

Tristen watches impassively, keeping a wary eye for any emerging threats. Eventually he speaks, Either way, we should continue. The longer we stay put discussing this, the better our chances of being detected by anything remaining.

"If the bandits have their lair there, then by now I assume they're either in hiding or preparing an ambush," he says.
"Unless Narya can give the locks another try, I think our best bet now is to ignore stealth and break the door down. There should be a decent-sized beam around here that could work as a ram, eh?"

"And I'll...watch our backs, I suppose," Daos volunteers.
