Daos goes ahead and casts Armor on himself now, before they depart.

To the moat house: the journey onward! The group after gathering enough information gears up, prepares their defenses and heads in the direction of the moat house ruins. A scrub of thorns, thistles, weeds, and shrubs grows thickly along the edge of the track which leads to the ruins. Even the track is mostly overgrown and cluttered with fallen branches and trees. Here and there it is washed out, in other places a mire. Some game evidently still follows the pathway, however, for after a mile or so faint traces can be seen. But even considering this, going is slow, and it takes over an hour to reach the place on horseback, or two to trudge along on foot. Considerable hacking and clearing is necessary to make the way passable. So it ends up taking well over two hours by horseback and three to four by foot. After two miles, as the track turns more northerly, the land begins to sink and become boggy. Tall marsh plants grow thickly where cattails and tamaracks do not. Off to the left can be seen the jagged silhouette of the moathouse. A side path, banked high to cross over the wetland to either side, just north to the entrance of the ruin. The track here is only about 15 feet wide or so, with crumbling embankments making travel near the edge dangerous. The bogs stink. The vegetation appears dense and prolific, but somehow sickly and unhealthy, creepers and vines throwing their strangling loops over the skeletons of dead saplings and living bushes alike. The rushes and cattails rustle and bend even to a slight zephyr, and weird bird calls, croakings, and other unwholesome sounds come faintly across the fen. The group encounters nothing aside from the overgrowth of vegetation. Map: click to enlarge (The group is where the red X is.)

Daos wipes some sweat from his forehead, then gestures to the moathouse. "So...any ideas on how to proceed? Looks like the main entrance is the only way in or out."

Resting his hand on the hilt of his morning star, Kevril looks over the crumbling walls of the moat house. "I suspect we could push our way through the wall, if we so desired. But the direct approach is likely the best approach here, is it not?"

(ooc: if it helps the small wedge in the lower left is the main entrance the two massive doors are open. Sorry if the map is not overly clear. I updated the map above to show that there is a pool of water near the path/road that heads to the entrance.)

"Aye, assuming the place is unoccupied," Roshek notes with a friendly grin. "But I suppose if it is, then we've probably already been seen by any sentinels. Still, we should probably not push ahead as one group. Better if one or two of us take the lead and check for ambushes while the rest of us follow a few yards behind so that we can support them if they end up in a fight or a trap."
"Anyone feeling sharp-eyed and sneaky?"

"If there's anyone in there, they could probably hear us coming if we did that," Daos says. "Although if we go through the main gate, I guess they'd see us coming, so...I'm not sure which one is optimal."
"Oh, uh, I'm not really any good at that sort of thing, to be honest," he replies.

"Well, I'm not known for my light step, but I've a good eye for an ambush. I'll go," Roshek says. "And how about you, Narya? Elves are famous for their sharp eyes and their ability to go unnoticed in the woods. Think you can bring that to bear here as well?"

"Yes, I shall scout ahead and keep a keen eye and ear out for trouble."
Armor spell in place, Narya keeps a wary eye and ear out for trouble as she moves ahead of the party far enough for her natural stealth to be of use.

“I’m not really the sneaking type, more of the kicking in doors and...well protecting others...I mean. It’s easy enough.” He draws his sword and readies for the inevitable fight.

"Be careful," Daos says to the pair as they move off. "And good luck."

Roshek follows a few steps behind Narya, mace and shield in hand, eyes and ears alert for trouble. Don't forget Roshek has the Alertness NWP and only fails on a 20.

(ooc: noted might I get a surprise roll for all those moving forward please? Alertness works as well since you have it roll that.)

Once Narya and Roshek move away, Daos stands there and waits, and starts to think. What if something happens? What if they're discovered? He starts considering the possibilities, and the likeliness of each scenario...and the math didn't seem in their favor. Oh, gods, what are we doing? he thinks. We're all going to be killed! This was complete madness. I'm not ready for this! Whose idea was this?
He starts to visibly sweat and even shake a bit as he fights back a full blown panic attack.

Kevril watches his companions leave to scout and loosens the straps on his weapons in case they need help in a hurry. At first, his attention is strained, listening for an outcry. But he notices Daos starting to sweat and shake. "Friend Daos, all will be well. We are still within earshot and can respond to our friends quickly. Do not fear, Mayaheine is with us."
