CH. 13 - Climbing the Ladder

"I'm glad it all worked out," Ladonna says pleasantly to Relken. If she is upset or otherwise phased by this new turn of events, she certainly doesn't show it. "I'll walk you out."

[Daos]

The pair walk out of the barracks.  Once they are outside, Relken says, "Please let your father know everything is fine now.  I'll reach out to him over the next few days and if all goes well, we can hopefully have a date set by the end of the week."

[HorizonsDream]

"You want this done quickly," Ladonna says. "But I'll speak with my father."

[Daos]

"And now you know why," Relken says.  "But I trust it's not an issue for you?  After all, I see you around elves all of the time.  And it's not like our children will look anything other than human."

[HorizonsDream]

"Elves don't bother me," Ladonna says. "Matter of fact, elves are part of the reason why my reputation is awful," she explains.

[Daos]

Relken nods.  "I'll see you later then."  He quickly leaves, as if worried the herald or the bailiff might change their mind and come back for him.

[HorizonsDream]

Ladonna decides to call it an evening.

[Daos]

Ladonna is left with a choice, it seems.  She can accept that Relken will be her husband, or she can expose him and get out of it entirely.  But doing so will destroy a young man's life--a young man who seems good and decent and done nothing wrong.  For now, though, she returns to her room to get some rest.  There will be time to ponder this decision later.
