Welcome to Princes of the Apocalypse, the second campaign I'm running both on the forum and in real life!
Now that the crunch is pretty much down, I'd like to discuss some roleplaying parts of setting up the game. The adventure begins in Red Larch, a small town in the Dessarin Valley. Should everyone start together, or should Braedon and Migor meet Iroas within the game? If the former, how did they end up meeting? Braedon and Migor have a motivation--they suffered because of the Elemental Cults, so they want to see them destroyed. Does Iroas have something like that, or should we stick with "he's an adventurer, he adventures things?" Or perhaps he was given a mission by the Order of the Gauntlet?
A couple of things. First, which of the Elemental Cults was Urzayrra part of? Second, when quoting those neat little passages of descriptive text directly from the module, should I put them in quotations or just pretend I made it up myself?

Does the Order accept Ilmatari? If so, that works for me. Second, when quoting those neat little passages of descriptive text directly from the module, should I put them in quotations or just pretend I made it up myself? Personally, I've always done the latter, myself. Usually adding additional text to fit the scene better, and editing all the second-person pronouns to third-person ones.

As for worrying descriptive text, I wouldn't use a quote format exactly, because you may want to change or tweak the encounter slightly. Throw in Migor's nemesis, or other things that toe it, more personally, to the players.

Hmmm... I guess Urzayyra were from fire cult? It feels the most "evil" element. More specifcly Migor is looking to release his clan- so it might a hindarnace, since seemingly random kobolds are for him a family. I know it a hindarance, but I think it can intresring. Also he is a pushover who wish to serve, so he can be pushed to do many things he doesn't want to. Which is a convient way to go around this.
I don't think quotations are needed, but if you use them, feel free to tweak them. Module meant to guide, to recommend, it isn't a sacred cannon as far as I know.
Migor is quite willing to work with anyone who seems sure enough of themselves, and doesn't expriement on him too much. Also, people need to be willing to stand Migor's chaotic's powers...

Right, so far, Migor's goal/bond/campaign tie-in thing is to defeat Urzzaya and rescue his clan. Since all of the one listed in the book grant Inspiration at two points, that's quite convenient for him. (Inspiration when Urzzaya is defeated, and when the prisoners are released) Zero's character can have the same thing, unless he has something else in mind.
For Iroas, some of the ones that could be reflavored as an Order mission are:
The Order has learned of cruel bandits planning a raid from a keep in the Dessarin Valley. Your mission is to stop them.
Raiders mounted on hippogriffs have laid waste to several towns and merchant caravans. The Order wants you to stop them.
A Waterdhavian Noble has run off to join a group of knights in the valley. You are tasked with getting her to come home.
The Order has learned that Bastian Thermandar, a ruthless killer, is hiding out in the valley. You are tasked with bringing him to justice.

The first, second and fourth ones all sound more like the kind of jobs that Iroas would accept, but the third one sounds like the most fun, in terms of roleplaying. So I think I'd go with that one.

All right, then. As soon as we work out whether the two groups are meeting before or after the game starts, we're ready to begin.

We could say we met on the road, a guy traveling with a kobold will draw some attention in a town.

We could say we met on the road, a guy traveling with a kobold will draw some attention in a town. Hmmm...I'm not sure that would work. There's some important stuff in Red Larch, and I don't want to miss it or exclude you and Igor. Besides, there's no reason a Kobold shouldn't be allowed in town. This doesn't even have to be in the Forgotten Realms, it can be the Misremembered Municipals. Exactly the same, but guys travelling with kobolds doesn't draw attention.

Hmmm...if everyone's ok with it, I could start Iroas in Red Larch, with Migor and Braedon at a nearby plot-relevant site on the road.
also, do all of Zero's characters have a name with ae in them?

Hrm, maybe? As regards AE, lol
I just thought that some villagers might give Kobolds the side eye, but if not I am fine with starting in town.
