Bayla lets Daos take the lead.

As the group walks into the inn, they find the tavern section in a wreck. Smashed bottles and spilled drinks litter the floor, and overturned chairs are scattered over it. Three inn workers haplessly attempt to clean up the mess.

Daos looks about at the mess, then approaches the nearest of the inn's staff. "Excuse me, but what happened here? A brawl?"

"Looks like it was a damn fine one!" Bayla remarks from behind Daos.

The worker closest to the entrance sighs. "Yeah, a couple of folks had drunken too many ales, and they started arguing over whether the town council should have tried to truce with those Sen-Tork orcs. It turned into a full-on fight pretty quickly, and...well, you know how the folks who come to taverns are."
"Interesting story," Melvin says, in a tone that makes it clear that he doesn't actually find it interesting. "but for now, can you take us to the owner? We need to get some rooms."
"That would be me," the innkeeper replies.

"Wait wait wait. Hold up a second" Bayla nearly shouts.
"Truce with the Sen-Tork? Why? What'd they offer?"

"Wait wait wait. Hold up a second" Bayla nearly shouts. " Truce with the Sen-Tok? Why? What'd they offer?" "Well, you see, this band of orcs had occasionally raided our town here; about two or three times a month. They'd charge in, steal some food from stalls, maybe injure a couple of guards, and make their way back to their camp. Just a few days ago, though, they marched up to the gates waving a white flag. They told the guards that their new leader had sent them to attack a town-not this one, mind you-and retrieve something from it, getting there and back as soon as possible. Those orcs offered us a temporary peace treaty: they could pass through the town, and we would be spared from two months of raids. The town guard sent an escort to bring the issue to the council's attention. Now, what they said was that they gave the order to accept the truce, but the guards who were supposed to do that attacked instead...but a lot of people think they were acting under the order of the council. Anyways, seven orcs got killed, as were all three guards. There's a lot of uproar about it."

"Fascinating," Daos comments. "These Sentok Orcs...were they, perchance, part of the Lun-Chu tribe? Also, did they happen to mention what it was they were going to retrieve from this other town?"

Also, did they happen to mention what it was they were going to retrieve from this other town?" “Maybe. I can’t tell those things apart from each other,” the innkeeper answers. “As for your second question, no, but knowing orcs, it can’t be good.”

"Two months of peace, and all you had to do was betray your fellows huh?"
Bayla spits, the wad landing right there on the inn floor. "What kind of coward would take a deal like that? Whatever the council said, those guards probably knew it was better to be dead than be a snake."

"Fear can make people do all manner of illogical things," Daos notes. "In any case, I hope nobody was seriously hurt in the brawl. But as my associate mentioned, we are seeking rooms for the night, and hot meals if at all possible. Do you have any available?"

"Plenty. Not a lot of travelers come through here, you know. Rooms cost five silver a night."

Daos fishes out a gold coin and gets back five silver in change in exchange for a room. "There's one thing I don't quite understand, though. You said that although the council approved the truce, the guards attacked anyway. But despite this, the orcs still passed by the town without bothering you?"

"How much?" Bayla asks. "What, are the door nobs made of solid gold or somethin?"
"How much to get fed and bed down on the common room floor? I've slept rougher."

"'Passed by?' They stole quite a bit of food and injured three of our guards at the eastern gate! Of course, I could tell they were hastier than normal...they probably wanted to get the whatever-it-was and get back to camp as quickly as possible." The innkeeper raises an eyebrow in response to Bayla's indignation. "Like I said, we don't get many travelers, which means not a lot of business. I think five silver is a reasonable price for the commodities I offer. Of course, if you so wish, you can sleep on the hard floor for seven copper."
"Well, I, for one, would rather sleep in a nice, soft, bed," Melvin declares, tossing five silver from his bag to the innkeeper, who shields his face and proceeds to pick up the coins.
