"Hey now!" Bula growls at Melvin. "Just 'cause they're overcharging doesn't mean ya get to toss stuff at 'em!"
She's still grumbling about rude Halfling and expensive inns when she fishes a gold out of her pouch. She hands it, politely, to the innkeeper.
"Just to be clear" she says "I'm payin for a hot meal, a good cup of ale - no. Better make that two good cups of ale - and a spot in front of the fire. I want change back."

The innkeeper nods in agreement and gives back four silver and two copper in change as Melvin and Daos head to their rooms. "Matthis! Gunther!" he shouts. "Prepare a meal for this Half-Orc." Then, he gets behind the counter and starts preparing her ale.
"So, you're a Half-Orc, right?" the younger, blonde inn worker asks as his coworker starts roasting some salted meat. "We don't get many of your kind down here...'course, we don't get many of anybody down here."
"Matthis, stop fraternizing with the customer and get to cooking," the innkeeper reprimands. He jumps to attention and briskly runs to grab some bread from their food stock.

"It's alright, it's alright" Bayla calms the innkeeper so she can keep talking to Matthis.
"Survivin' as a half-orc is a difficult trick to pull off. Couldn't stay with my pa; I'm not cut out for a life of senseless killing. Couldn't settle down on a farm like most humans, I'd go bonkers with boredom. So I settled right in the middle and joined a group of human mercs. Killin for money has me just about set."

"Heh, sounds like a nice life," Matthis replies. "No arbitrary rules, getting it on by yourself..."

"It suits me" Bayla agrees. "Means I'll probly never be old, but that's the life I chose."
"You lookin to set out on your own?"

"By the way," Daos asks the innkeeper, "what is the name of this town?" He pulls out the map he found in Meyerville. "I discovered it on this map I found in the ruins of Meyerville, but the name is illegible."

"Maybe," Matthis replies. "I'd like to, but my folks wouldn't let me in a million years. My brother used to work for some merchants, until his leg was injured by orcs and they had to lop it off. I'd be surprised if they even let me set foot out of Delvinburg."
"It's called Delvinburg," the innkeeper answers. "Fine town, if a bit isolated."

"Interesting," Daos notes. He pulls out his ink vial and quill, and makes a quick notation on the map, labeling the town more legibly. "And one more question, if you would. Are there any other towns or settlements between here and the Sentok border?"

"Not as far as I know. Why're you asking?"

Daos furls the map back up and puts it away, along with the ink vial and quill. "Because we are pursuing the orcs who sacked Meyerville. Our employer was among those taken prisoner, or so we believe."

Bayla chuckles and murmurs within Matthis's hearing "your folks care about you, huh?" She takes a swig of her ale. "Wouldn't know what that's like, but I bet it's nice."

"Meyerville? Sacked?!" he replies, in shock. "Huh...I guess we know why they needed to get through us. How far are they from the town?"
Meanwhile, Matthis is also a bit surprised at Bayla's comment. "Huh...I guess I never thought about it that way..."

"Based on the tracks we followed here, they've already passed by," Daos answers. "I'm not sure how the entire town didn't notice an army of marching orcs with prisoners. They seem to be on their way back to Sentok, if they haven't already crossed the border by now."

Bayla lets her attention drift to the conversation between Daos and the innkeeper. Her ale drifts with her. She sips it and puts her feet up on another stool.

"Well, I'd suggest you get after them as soon as possible," the Innkeeper says. "Get some rest, and you can be on your way in the morning."
