Chevis nearly dropped his bottle at that news. He quickly got up and turned to face her. "A job? Really? Where? Doing what? Does it pay well?"

Sonoma was taken by surprise that Chevis' sudden interest. "It is nothing special," she said with a shrug. "I'm just working at the stables, of course that is until I can get myself a little more cleaned up. Once I'm cleaned up and back on my feet, then I'm hoping to work at the inn," she explained. "As for pay, it was five pennies I think."

"Five pennies?" Chevis asked, crestfallen. "That's it? That's barely enough to feed yourself. I was hoping you'd do a little better than that."
After a moment of thought, he shrugs. "Well, at least I won't have to feed you anymore. But I guess I can't charge you rent, either. So you'll need to start making yourself useful around here instead."

"Make myself useful?" Sonoma asked curiously. She couldn't help but take a look around the little shack that she was staying in. There wasn't anything she could really do with the place other than keep in clean.

"That's right," he said. "You can start by cleaning up this dump. Compared to cleaning up horse manure, I'm sure it will be a snap."

"But...there is nothing to really clean around here," Sonoma pointed out. She wanted to pointed out that he lived in a shack, but since she was staying here too she didn't want to get into trouble. "But I guess I'll do what I can."

Sonoma spent the next couple of hours cleaning up the place, scrubbing and throwing out old empty bottles that had accumulated by the fireplace. She didn't even want to tackle the chimney just yet, it looked like nobody had cleaned it in years.
Chevis then fed her half a fish while he had the other half. "Don't forget now, this is your last free meal. From now on, since you have a job, you can pay for your own food."
After that, he went to bed, leaving Sonoma to clean up after the meal and to sleep in the living room.

Sonoma muttered curses under her breath as she cleaned up the rest of the food. She cursed even more as she realized that she was sleeping on the floor. "I really don't like him," she said softly as she curled up near the fire.

Onix 17th, 601; Darkday
Sonoma awoke the next day at 10 bells feeling sore from sleeping on the hard floor. Despite how achy she felt, she realized today was her first day of work, so she better get ready and head over there to make a good impression.
The door to Chevis' room was still closed. He was likely still sleeping.

Sonoma suffers a -1 DEX penalty for the day.

Sonoma stretched a little before she slipped on Chevis' shoes, and left for her first day on the job. She hugged herself all the way over to the stables due to the cold. "I need warmer clothes," she said softly to herself as she walked towards the stables.

Inside the stables, she was immediately greeted with the scent of horse and horse manure. The stable was modest and had at least ten stalls for visiting horses. Most of these were empty, save for two. The two in question both held ponies, not horses.
Waiting for her was the young man she saw yesterday, Hoyt. He was leaning against a wooden support column, wearing a warm wool shirt and jacket to protect him from the cold.
"Well, well, you actually showed up. I didn't think you would," he said. "Huh, well father said I was to teach you what to do. Fine by me, if it means I won't have to do it anymore. I'm Hoyt, and from here on out, you do whatever I tell you. Any questions, tribal?"

Sonoma had opened her mouth just to make pleasant conversation about how she was just glad to be away from Chevis. Of course, that quickly turned it a more shocked expression. "I thought you were just going to show me what to do, not be my boss," Sonoma said, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Don't forget," Hoyt reminded her, "that my father owns this place. One word from me, and you're back on the street. So I suggest you cooperate and do a good job, because like it or not, I'm supervising you." He grinned smugly and crossed his arms.

Sonoma gave Hoyt a small glare, but there was nothing she could really do about this. She needed a job, and she needed money. "Fine," she said with a small huff. "So what do I do?" she asked while pushing some of her hair behind her ears. She kept mentally reminding herself that this was only temporary. She didn't know how temporary, but that was just a tiny detail.

"Sir. You'll call me sir while working for me, tribal," he said arrogantly.
"Father doesn't want you working with the animals just yet, since you're just starting. So for now, your only job is really quite simple. Even you shouldn't have too much trouble with it." He walks over to a haystack and picks up a shovel that was lying on it. He then approaches her and rudely shoves it into her hands.
"You need to dig a latrine out back, then shovel all of the horse manure into it, and bury it. When you are finished with that, I have other tasks for you."
