Onix 16th, 601; Frostday
When Sonoma awoke the following day at about 10 bells, she felt better. She removed the bandages from her feet to find that they seemed almost healed thanks to Hilda's healing the previous day and a good night's rest. Well, perhaps 'good' was being generous. The bed was stiff, cold and smelled funny. But it was better than sleeping out in the snow, to be sure!
Stepping out of the room, she found Chevis curled up by the dying fireplace wrapped up in a thick and dirty blanket. He snored lightly.

Not wanting to wake up the grumpy fisherman, Sonoma took the time to simply tip toe her way over to his boots. Chevis had said that she could use them after all. It only took her a few seconds to slip on the boots. ~This man has huge feet,~ she thought to herself as she tried to tip toe towards the door.

Slipping outside, Sonoma is immediately struck by how cold it is. The boots may have their problems, but at least they'll protect her from frostbite.
Looking around, she realizes the fisherman's house is between a couple of farms. Frost covers the ground, and there's still clumps of snow here and there from the last snowfall. Whenever she walks, the worn boots make a slight crunching sound from the snow and frost. The lake is indeed nearly frozen over.
At this point, she can head either north or south.

Chevis' house is #8 on the map provided in your personal thread.

"Ahhh!" Sonoma exclaimed as the cold air hit her. "How did I make it this far?" she asked herself. Quickly, she crossed her arms over her chest as if that would help protect her from the cold.
She knew nothing of this town, but she knew she was going to have to start walking, so she started walking towards the north. She could only hope that she would run into the tavern or even the church.

Heading north, she spots a few more farms along the way. There are also two shops. One has a picture of a fancy dress with ribbons and lace on it, the other has a picture of a log with an axe embedded into the top.
Further down the road, toward the east, she spots a larger building.

Sonoma took a moment to simply study the signs. She knew one had to belong to a tailor, which was useful to know. The other sign, she really wasn't sure about. Though, she wasn't going to stand there trying to figure it out either.
With a shrug, she walked towards the larger buildings. "Come on, feet," she said, trying to give herself a small pep talk in the cold weather. It didn't help that Chevis' boots were like twice her size, so she was somewhat tripping over herself with every step.

Having come this far, Sonoma finds herself on the other side of the lake. The large, two-story building she approached sat on the north bank of the river, near a long bridge that crossed the river.
There was a smaller building next to it, and it smelled of animal. It was likely some sort of stable.
The larger building had a sign, but Sonoma could not read it. There was a picture of a foamy mug of ale on it, though.
Across the bridge were more buildings.

Sonoma looked up at the sign. She didn't have to be able to read to know that this was a tavern. That was a start, so she walked inside. She had just about enough of the cold anyway. Taverns usually meant people, and that usually meant that she could possibly find someone that would be willing to help her out. That is what she hoped at least.

Stepping inside the inn, Sonoma immediately felt warmth flowing from the blazing fireplace as she shut the door behind her. An old tribal spear hangs over the mantle for decoration.
There are several tables and chairs and the floor is covered in straw to help sop up spilled drinks. A long bar at the back of the room stands ready to serve customers.
At this hour, the place isn't terribly busy. A plump and balding man stands behind the bar wearing a brown apron. He looks to be in his early thirties with red hair, black eyes, and fair skin.
Sitting at the bar are two women, eating breakfast. They are both in their thirties, or so Sonoma would judge. The first is a slightly frumpy woman with long brown hair and brown eyes and tanned skin. The second, an obviously pregnant woman with short cropped brown hair and blue eyes and fair skin.
A young man, a teenager, sweeps up in the corner. He also wears an apron. He has short, spiked red hair, blue eyes, and fair skin.
There is also a white cat curled up on the bar, snoozing quietly.
Upon her entrance, all conversation ceases. The bartender and boy stare at her in surprise and the other two look at her over their shoulders with mild interest. Even the cat has raised its head lazily to inspect the newcomer idly.

Sonoma suddenly felt very aware of what she was wearing when everyone (including the cat) turned their attention on her. Though, she wasn't going to let it get to her. She was here for a reason after all.
She put on a small smile as she walked over to the bar, her boots clomping on the floor as she walked. "Excuse me," she said to the man obviously tending to the bar. "Do you own this place?" she asked.

"Why, yes, I am," the bald man said. "Seth Firesnake, owner of the Last Pony Inn. Aren't you that tribal girl that wandered into town the other day?" he asked bluntly.
"Eh, the one that Chevis is taking care of?" the pregnant woman asked.
All eyes remained on her, save for the cat's. It decided its curiosity was satisfied and so went back to sleep.

"Um, yeah, I guess that is me," Sonoma said, glancing at the women then back to Seth. "But I don't think he is going to let me stay for too long, so I'm going to have to find something else to do," she admitted.
Sonoma took a moment to take a seat at the bar. Her feet started to swing a little bit from the stool. The over sized shoes on her feet looked like they might fall off.
"I figured that since this is a tavern, I could maybe get a job here or something. I don't want to be a burden to Chevis, so the sooner I'm out of his care the better," she explained. She left out the fact that she was under the impression that Chevis didn't like her.

"Smart girl, this one," said the pregnant woman with approval. "Got more sense in her than Chevis does, at any rate."
"That's not saying much, though," her companion muttered. "Chevis is a fool and a drunk, not to mention a terrible fisherman. It's his own fault if he can't even feed himself."
"Ladies, ladies..," Seth interrupted with a calming gesture. Clearing his throat, he turned his gaze back to Sonoma. "Uh...anyway, a job? What uh...skills do you have, miss?"
The young man in the back has all but abandoned his chores now to step closer and listen and observe this conversation. He idly leaned on his broomstick, curious.

"Ah, ha," Sonoma laughed a little once she was asked what skills she had. That was always a tricky question. "This is going to sound crazy, but I don't really remember if I have any skills or not," she admitted. "I know my name, and that is really about it. Though, I'm willing to learn anything at this point."

"Amnesia?!" the frumpy woman interjected. "She didn't have the burning sickness, did she?"
"Relax, Harriet," the pregnant woman said. "If she did, she doesn't have it now. She wouldn't be able to stand and talk if she did."
Ignoring the interruptions, the innkeeper said, "Well, I'm sorry miss, but I'm not sure I can use you. You're too dirty to work the kitchen and I couldn't have you serve customers looking like...that," he said bluntly, gesturing at all of her.
"Probably would fit right in with the animals," the young man, speaking up for the first time, said.
"Well, that is an idea. I suppose if you're really desperate for work, I could have you in the stables, cleaning up after the horses," Seth said thoughtfully.
