Unless he's pulling a fast one, I now actually know exactly what the monsters were...because the encounter map kindly spells it out.

Sure, give me a 1d20+INT-2. So if your INT is 8, you'd roll 1d20+8-2 or 1d20+6 for simplicity.

In entire honesty OOC my first thought was Saltwater Troll (Marine Scrag). 1d20+14

Not bad rolls. Answer are found below in whispers: Imrich knows that they are scrags, an off-shoot off trolls that dwell in the ocean. Although they can subsist on fish and shellfish, most crave human flesh. They create their lairs in shallow ocean caves or beneath city docks. They emerge from their caves at night, climbing over ship railings in search of sailors or hunting the piers for a strolling couple or a lone drunk. Their attacks are quick and stealthy; they usually hunt in packs of four to six, but occasionally, several dozen may attack a large ship. They have all of the abilities of normal trolls, except they regenerate only when immersed in saltwater. Jaeron has heard of these things before; he likely read about them in a book somewhere. Argh, this situation is my bad, I think. I'd honestly forgotten that we were anchored up for the night. Tossing the scrag corpses overboard was always predicated on us simply sailing away to put some distance between us and them. Then it wouldn't have mattered that they regenerate in the water.
Is it possible to retcon this so that we don't start dropping troll body parts overboard until we're ready to sail in the morning? It's either that or hope the scrags don't feel like tangling with us a second time (and hoping that there aren't more of them around).

Hmm. Normally I think I'd lean toward the party just dealing with the consequences of this, but as it stands now, I'm eager to move on. And since the party chopped off their heads and threw their heads and bodies into the water, that means you've created more of them (each head will grow a new body, each body will grow a new head). And seeing how much trouble four of them were for the party, facing seven of them with no healing and low on spells and HP, it would probably just lead to a TPK anyway. So I'll allow a retcon.

Well, it took an extra week, but we cleared 20 pages. I was aiming for August 5th, but close enough, all things considered. Let's see if we can clear 30 pages by September 5th. (Reminder, if all active players in a game post after I have, I'll post a second time; if they then all post again after that, I'll post a third time, and so forth. This is true for all my games.)

FYI, I don't expect to be able to post any further IC responses today. Major problems with my train journey...

This is very weird. I could have sworn that when I typed up my latest IC response there were no posts after Kalana's answer on the second to last page...

So, I'm currently in Oklahoma visiting my mom. I should be able to post, but it might be later than normal.

Imrich has nothing to add to Horizons current line of questioning.
