Fosco tumbles to his left and fires an arrow at the first goblin. Fosco doesn't have a bow, just a dagger and rapier. So you'll need to reroll damage to either 1d4 (for the dagger) or 1d8 (for the rapier).

The party enters the cave, stepping into the cool darkness. Just inside the cave mouth, a few uneven stone steps lead up to a small, dank chamber on the east side of the passage. The cave narrows to a steep fissure at the far end, and is filled with the stench of animals. Savage snarls and the sounds of rattling chains greet their ears where two wolves are chained up just inside the opening. Each wolf's chain leads to an iron rod driven into the base of a stalagmite. They seem to hear the party approaching and start snarling and barking at them, but the chain keeps them attacking. However, there is no way the party could bypass them without entering their range. It looks like to the north, the tunnel extends further, before branching to the west and east. The stream is coming from the east side, while the west side appears to lead to a very steep passage heading up. Is one of us carrying a torch or other light source? If not, how are we making out the surrounding features? And if so, wouldn't that lone guard Orianna mentioned easily see us coming?

At the moment, the party is close enough to the cave entrance that the sunlight streaming in is enough to let them see. But to go deeper, they will need a light source to see (only the two tieflings have darkvision), and if they approach the goblin with that light source, then yes, they will be easily visible.

This game doesn't seem to be doing so well. There have been 39 IC posts since June 1st. This is a breakdown of how many of those posts belong to each player in those eighteen days:
Me - 16
Horizon - 15
GravityEmblem - 5
notARobot - 2
Nuke - 1
Basically, at this point, Horizon and I are carrying this game. (And as my character is an NPC, I'm trying to avoid making decisions for the party, so really this is all on Horizon alone.)
The module is not balanced to be run for only two characters.
Now I understand that real life always come first over make-believe fun-time games. Or maybe the game just isn't as exciting or interesting as you had hoped; that's understandable, it is a starter module, after all. But as it stands now, this game is not sustainable. And since the whole reason I started it was to learn how to run 5E, I don't want to shut it down.
So what I'm going to do is put the game on a brief hiatus. Over the next few days, I'd like to hear from everyone (aside from Horizon, who has been maintaining pretty much a 1/day posting rate) on your current status with this game. Are you bored with it? Are you just too busy to participate? If the former, is there something I can do to fix that? If the latter, is this a temporary issue and if so, how long will it last before you can participate more fully again?
If you are too busy or just lost interest and want to drop out, I'm giving you the opportunity to do so now, so I can try recruiting some replacements and the game can resume. If I don't hear from you after a few days, I'm going to assume you are out.

I'm interested in the game, but I'm very slightly lost as to what the current situation is. I'll look back at previous posts and try to make heads or tails out of it.

Summing it all up:
The party was hired by a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker to drive a wagon of supplies from Neverwinter to the frontier town of Phandalin. En route there, they were ambushed by some goblins and later learned that these same goblins also ambushed Gundren Rockseeker (and his human bodyguard, Sildar Hallwinter) who went ahead of the party, and captured them both. In an effort to rescue the pair, the party tracked the goblins back to their lair (with the help of the one they took prisoner), Cragmaw Hideout.
After dispatching the two guards outside the cave mouth, the party then encountered some chained up wolves which they subdued by giving them food. Further ahead, there was a bridge with a goblin guard on it. Orianna managed to take him out stealthily, then scouted further ahead. There is a room up ahead with three goblins in it, prepared to cause a river flood should they be warned ahead of time.
That's the gist, anyway. I can field any specific questions anyone might have.

OK, my only remaining question is where we are on the map.

Right now, the party is right under the bridge.

"Does he have any dexterity though?" Orianna asks curiously. "I could try it myself, if the dragonborn isn't willing." Actually, Athletics is solely based off Strength.

That's true. Acrobatics is the DEX based one. The module specifies it must be an Athletics check, but I admit, I don't really understand why. Wouldn't dexterity be more useful than strength when trying to climb slippery rocks?
So all that being said, I'd allow you to make an Acrobatics check instead of Athletics in this instance. The DC would still be 15, however.

Yikes, I've only posted here twice so far this month? The time's really been slipping a way from me. I touched briefly on why my posting rate has been slowing down lately not too long ago, but here's an update: Last time I mentioned I had just started working two part-time jobs. I've held onto one of those and replaced the other with a full-time job, so I'm currently working 60 hours a week (I don't know if i can sustain it long-term, but I think this will continue to be the case for the foreseeable future). Back around April I also started dating this really wonderful young woman -- and that hasn't happened for me in quite a long time, so I've been prioritizing seeing her during my non-working hours, and a lot of other things, including my presence here, have begun falling by the wayside. I'm still around, though. And in spite of my free time becoming increasingly rare, I'm not eager to stop playing D&D with you guys. So I'd like to try to make this work. If it's acceptable to you all, I'm going to set a goal of making three posts per week in each game. I know that's far short of the ideal rate of one post per game per day, but it would put me on the right side of the three-day rule, and hopefully would keep me from dragging the pace of things to a crawl. I think that's an achieveable goal, and I'm gonna try my hardest to maintain it. If it turns out I can't...well, I guess I'll have to bow out. I'm coming up on the one year anniversary of my registering here, and...well, a year ago I was kind of in a bad way. I was jobless and struggling financially, and also dealing with some mental health issues that made it really difficult to talk to people or go out and do anything. Finding this site and having fun with you guys really helped me work through all that, and I just want to say that I'm grateful to each and every one of you beyond my capacity to express. So that's where I'm at right now. If three posts a week isn't enough for y'all to feel like it's worth keeping me around, I completely understand. I feel bad about my absence bogging things down for everyone, and I don't want to continue to do that.

Three posts a week should be more than sufficient to keep things going.
And I'm happy to hear things have turned around for you.

Despite the fact that Jaded knows my situation, everyone else is posting their situations here so I might as well jumped in and explain what I'm doing just in case my posting rate does fail.
As I think most of you know, I am in college. I stupidly decided that it was a good idea to take a full years worth of a foreign language in one quarter. As a result, I'm in the middle of taking an intensive Korean language class at school To give everyone an idea at how very stupid this is, I just learned the Korean alphabet in two days, and today (day three) we jumped right into the sentences. All of this means is that my life (providing that I don't drop out of this course) is nothing but work and Korean.
