"That dwarf you are not interested in MIGHT be out employer," Orianna points out to Djan

"And if it is our employer, it goes without saying we won't get paid even if we complete the job," Iroas adds. He shakes his head at Djan. He doesn't look angry, just disappointed. He turns to the others. "See what else you can learn from her. I'll go check out the horses." He then heads that way to investigate.

Orianna turns her attention back to the goblin. "Why do you need the dwarf?" she asks. "And what did this dwarf look like?"

"And if it is our employer, it goes without saying we won't get paid even if we complete the job," Iroas adds. He shakes his head at Djan. He doesn't look angry, just disappointed. Djandaar shrugs at the cleric's rebuttal. "If Gundren's safe and sound in Phandalin, then he can pay us as planned and I'm happy. If we get there and he isn't...well," he eyes the camouflaged caravan a moment before continuing, "liquidating the dwarf's goods ought to suffice to compensate us for our time. I'd be happy then, too." Minutes pass. Iroas begins inspecting the horses as the others continue interrogating the goblin. Suddenly and without provocation, Djandaar spits out a loud, guttural expletive in Draconic. " Baeshra aithyas! I reckon the dwarf's got friends of means and influence -- with my luck, they'd decide I was to blame for his demise and come after me. Just finish up with that goblin and let's go rescue the henish nurh already!"

Fosco sighs a bit and whispers to the goblin prisoner, quietly enough so that Djandaar can't hear him.
"Please excuse our Dragonborn friend; he's pretty...callous."

"A few days ago, our leader, Klarg, got a message from King Grol that said someone named the Black Spider would pay lots of gold if we captured a dwarf traveling with a human and send 'em and anything they were carrying back to King Grol. Don't know why anyone would pay money for a dwarf, but that's above my pay grade anyway."
"I dunno...he looked like a dwarf. You know? Bearded. Stumpy. You know, a dwarf."
"Yeah, too bad he's not a goblin. He'd probably fit in with the Cragmaw Tribe pretty well."

"Black Spider?" Orianna asks. "Well, whatever this Black Spider wants with them probably isn't anything good," she admits as she looks to Iroas. "Find anything?"

Iroas returns, holding a patch of cloth. It looks like he ripped off the sigil that was on the saddlebags. "I'm afraid so," he says. "This is the clan emblem of Rockseeker. It appears our employer was the one who was taken after all. Did you find out anything useful?"

"Someone named Black Spider wants him," Orianna said. "But I don't know who that is."

"Black Spider? Probably an alias of some kind," Iroas reasons. "But why would anyone want to kidnap Gundren? The Rockseekers are good, honest folk. I can't imagine they have any enemies. In any case, he's clearly in some kind of trouble."

Orianna helps the goblin up on her feet, and looks to Iroas. "Are we going to have her lead the way to her hideout?"

Fosco sighs a bit and whispers to the goblin prisoner, -->quietly enough so that Djandaar can't hear him<---. "Please excuse our Dragonborn friend; he's pretty...callous." "Apologizing on my behalf to this worm that tried to kill us?" Djandaar asks, glaring at Fosco. "You can stoop to that level of patheticness all you like, but leave me out of it!" He stomps off to the beginning of the trail leading northwest, and starts following it.(OOC: Doh! I was reading too quickly, with too many other things on my mind, and failed to comprehend that you'd explicitly written Fosco was whispering to avoid being overheard. Please disregard this post, GravityEmblem , and feel free to edit your followup.)

"Are you willing to lead the way?" Fosco asks the goblin.

Djandaar does not deign to comment further on the wisdom of seeking information from the goblin or inviting her to lead the way. He does, however, seem to have reached the limits of his patience, as he walks over to the trailhead Fosco discovered and bends down to make his own examination of the goblin tracks. He dawdles there until the others indicate that they are ready to go off in search of the abducted dwarf, then proceeds to set off a little ahead of them.
