"So why are you here, and why are you telling us this?" Daos asks.

"So why are you here, and why are you telling us this?" Daos asks. "Yesterday, Korlag had realized there was someone following us, so he appointed me and one of his cronies to stay behind and deal with them...uh, you," answers the first orc. "Me, Gel-thrak here, and a couple other traditionalists volunteered, to," the second elaborates. "We were able to overpower and kill the violent orc and set up camp near here, in hopes that we could convince whoever was following us to let us live and help them in taking down Korlag and the human mage." After a few seconds of silence, he says, "Did we do a good job?"

Daos looks to his companions; the two old ones and the two new ones. "What do you all think? They seem sincere, and we could always use more allies--especially ones that have insider knowledge."

Bayla grunts.
"It's not like they've ought to gain by lying to us, ya know? And you talked the council into accepting just the mage dead anyway so we're not likely to have any problems with them."
She rubs her chin.
"Plus the more I think about it, the more likely it seems that whoever this mage was after knew he was coming and - ya know - sent out a call for mercs to protect him. Seems like the kinda thing a frilly type would do. I'm thinking if we find his prisoner we find our mystery employer."

“I’d prefer not to associate with Orcs,” Melvin says. “But that’s just personal matters. I think they’re telling the truth. Orcs are terrible liars.”
”I feel we can trust them; Lun-Chu are rather noble for bandits,” Jonas adds. Quentein nods in agreement.

Nodding, Daos turns back to the orcs. "We accept your proposal then. What are your names? I am Daos Soulstaff, and these are Bayla, Mel, Jonas and Quentein," he says, gesturing to each one in turn.

Bayla raises her hand in acknowledgement when Daos introduces her, but makes no further contribution. At least, not yet.

"I'm Frun-Wok," the original orc says. "These are Gel-Thrak and Hun-Lek."
"My name is Jonas, and this is Quentein," Jonas says. After a few seconds of silence, he adds "And this is Melvin."

"Well we've got a lot of distance to cover, and I want to get all this done in as little time as possible. Eerrry minute we spend talking makes it less likely we get that captive back alive, and if I know anything about fighting a mage you don't give 'em time to prepare."

"Well met," Daos says in reply. "But first, did the Lun-Chu leave any further obstacles behind, aside from yourselves? Anything we should prepare for before we set out?"

“Not as far as we know, but there are occasional wolf attacks to be prepared for.”

"Wolves tend to avoid larger groups, so hopefully they won't pose too much of a problem," Daos speculates. Or so he hopes, anyway. As they move on, he says to the orcs, "Our plan is to try and sneak into the Lun-Chu camp, grab the human mage and hopefully sneak him back out without detection. Then we plan to turn him over to the authorities at Delvinburg. If he is influencing your chieftain, this should hopefully put an end to it, and with a minimum of bloodshed, if all possible. We also are hoping to free the prisoner that was taken from Meyerville. What do you think our chances are of pulling this off? Oh, and does this human mage have a name?"

Bayla huffs and crosses her arms when Daos says they plan to take the mage alive. She doesn't exactly appreciate him overruling what she said just a little while ago without so much as a by-your-leave. Maybe letting him handle the talking was going to his head.
"Last I remember hearing, the council didn't care one way or another whether the mage came back alive or dead - so why do we?

"For answers," Daos replies, looking pointedly at Bayla. "At this point, we don't know who this mage is, why he did this, who he is working for, and how much of a risk there is that something like this might happen again. It's been my experience that when there is a problem, it's never enough to simply eliminate the source. You need to know and understand how the problem came to be in the first place, too. Otherwise, you're doomed to repeat history again and again."

"I'm willin to bet the last gold in my purse that the victim knows just as much as the mage if he knew to anticipate trouble and send for backup. But fine. We'll try it your way first, with the understanding that I'll make the mage a foot shorter if it's the difference between a clean job and one where one of us gets hurt."
When she says 'a foot shorter' she holds her own hand up at neck height, to make it clear she's talking about a beheading.
