It's basically a collection of background info and amusing details about the Dragonlance world, complete with sheet music of local tunes, recipes for themed dishes, legends, proverbs and other miscellaneous stuff that is related to Dragonlance, or with a DL spin put on it. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaves_from_the_Inn_of_the_Last_Home

Is anyone here interested in the Humblewood setting? Apparently the book for it is on sale for only $10. It's a first edition print, so it has a few coloring errors, but that's about it. I'd consider grabbing it myself, but I'm completely broke.

My only experience as a DM was actually with Humblewood lol before I got overwhelmed with work and study at the same time.
It's a cute setting, they introduce a few player's options that are interesting..especially all the races are really adorable. It is possible to find it at a *cough* much lower price, if one wanted to take a look at it to get a better idea of the setting.

Not sure if it'd be my 'thing.' It's cute, and might be fun to do a one-shot with, but I couldn't see myself using it for long term games.
I'm still on the search for a 5E published setting I can really call home, like Dragonlance is for my 2E games. Maybe some day I'll find something.

I probably shouldn't have spent the money, but it was 30% off. Some of you may recall about 3 years ago I bought the first book and made most of the recipes in it. I'm hoping to do the same here. The first book grouped the recipes by race. Human, Elven, Dwarven, Halfling, Uncommon (which was basically misc), and then the final bit was for drinks. This one groups the recipes by setting. They are The Yawning Portal (FR), The Rock of Bral (SpellJammer), Solamnia (Dragonlance), Realmspace (misc, I guess?), Ravenloft, Sigil (Planescape), and The Feywild. Apparently, the book assumes that every world in the D&D multiverse exists in Realmspace? Because the Realmspace menu includes stuff from FR, Strixhaven, Greyhawk, Eberron, and the Radiant Citadel. There's also a line in the Dragonlance section that reads, "Now our heroes sail through Realmspace to KRYNN, the planet of the fabled dragonlances..." which seems to sure imply Krynn is in Realmspace. So...not a fan of that. (Maybe they meant to refer to the Phlogiston/Astral Sea instead? But Radiant Citadel is in the Ethereal Plane, so...I dunno.) That said, there are a couple of good Dragonlance references. There's one picture that's clearly a reference to Larry Elmore's famous 'Death of Sturm.' Also, one of the recipes is 'Tarsis-Style Shrimp.' Like, only a Dragonlance fan is going to get that joke. Anyway, I doubt I'll make all 75 recipes. I'll probably skip the seafood, anything with mushrooms in it, anything I can't get the ingredients for (one of the Ravenloft recipes calls for roasted crickets, and I somehow doubt my store carries those, but I admit I've never looked for them), and anything alcoholic. If anyone is interested, I can post pictures of the stuff I make like I did last time.

What the problem with that? Wasnt it said that the super giant dragons are from some parallel world-thingy?

Yes, interested, I like seeing people culinary adventures! What was the joke with Tarsis and shrimps? Okay. Look forward to the first recipe in the next week or two. I'll probably start a new thread for it, for easier access. In the novels, the party travels to Tarsis, a seaport, in hopes of securing a ship. The problem is, the map they are using (one of Tas') is several hundred years out of date. So when they finally arrive, they discover that Tarsis is now landlocked, thanks to the Cataclysm. So heading to Tarsis to have shrimp would create a similar problem, I'd imagine, as they would not have easy access to seafood of any kind. What the problem with that? Wasnt it said that the super giant dragons are from some parallel world-thingy? The problem is that Realmspace is the solar system where Toril is found, but Krynn would be found in another solar system, Krynnspace. To put it another way, it would be like if a Star Trek cookbook implied that Vulcan or Q'onos could be found somewhere between Jupiter and Saturn. They wouldn't be in our solar system, that makes no sense. So either it's a huge mistake or it's another sign that WotC is collapsing the entire multiverse into the Forgotten Realms. Every setting is Forgotten Realms now, I guess. And yes, the Dragon Overlords came from an unnamed alien dragon world. However, 5E pretends none of that ever happened, and that Krynn is eternally locked into the War of the Lance.

What do you all think of group initiative vs. individual initiative?
I have always used individual initiative in my games, but I've recently wondered if, given the pbp format of these games, group initiative might be better suited. It would allow everyone to better coordinate their attacks.
The main downside is there are specific mechanics that are rendered null with group initiative. In 2E, weapon speed and casting time are important. Higher level spells take longer to cast than lower level ones. Heavy weapons take longer to swing than lighter ones. In 5E, DEX modifies your initiative and certain feats (like Alert) also impact it. With group initiative, all of that stuff would be pointless.
Another potential downside is I'm worried that with group initiative, each player may delay posting because they want to see what everyone else is doing first...which would mean the game would stall out every round, as nobody would act.
Still, I was considering having my next game use group initiative, just to see how well (if at all) it might work out. Any thoughts?

I’ve never used group initiative (for players, at least; I always use it for monsters) but it does sound like it would work well in a PbP setting. I wouldn’t worry too much about taking out initiative bonus mechanics in 5E, it’s a much smaller part of the rules than attack speed in 2E. (DEX is good for other reasons, and people just won’t take Alert)

Hmm, how about lair actions, though? I'm not sure how they would work with group initiative, as they usually occur between players' turns.

Lair Actions are Initiative count 20, basically before everybody else unless a particular character is really lucky or built for high Initiative. So I would just put them right at the start of the turn--or the end of the previous turn, preferably. I remember when we fought the hag in Overmorrow that the Lair Actions kind of annoyed me, because we all chose our actions before the Lair Action took effect. So half of us were stuck making decisions based on an outdated battle situation. Now that I think about it, it's not really that unreasonable. A live game is a battle where everybody steps up, analyzes the situation, and makes their move, while a PbP game is a battle where everyone analyzes the situation at once, plans their attack, and then executes it. I can imagine a Lair Action taking effect too quickly for you to change your move, but it still bothered me a little in the moment!
