"Quick, after him!" Daos calls. He isn't the type to jump through a window, though, so he'll leave that to the more agile members of the group. "I'll try and cut him off from outside." He'll then turn and run to the front, to come up around the building.

Without wasting a moment Flynn sprints behind and jumps out the window, giving chase right behind the judge.

Daos rushes out of the building, with the Mayor and the two guards close behind. Flynn and Alonzo both jump out the window after Menlo, and Qurrak does the same. Unfortunately, his aim is a bit to the right, and he smashes into the wall. Aerendyl, on the other hand, simply hurls a javelin through the window. Menlo crumples to the ground as it pierces his back, and Chesham gasps in horror. "Quickly, get him a healer!"

MOVE. ASIDE!" He crouched down beside the prone form, and whispered into the man's ear, "To let you die and avoid justice for your deceptions would be too great a sin." That said, he stood, and removed the javelin, casting the bloodied weapon aside, he then clasped his hands together, and intoned a phrase in the language of dragons, and laid his hands upon the man's wound. "You will not die, but if there is any justice in Ren, I truly hope that you will wish that you had."{Out of Character Actions}OOC: Using a single pip of Healing from my Lay on Hands to stabilise him and prevent him dying from the wound.

Flynn is visibly disappointed when the chase is cut short by a javelin thrown by the serious type, Aerendyl. Flynn, not knowing what else to do he gently slaps his brother on the back. "You know, if he hadn't thrown that javelin at him, I totally would have caught him before you. You're getting slow old man." Flynn winks at Alonzo before lightly elbowing him in the ribs.

As Daos rounds the exterior of the building, he mentally says a little prayer to Elshodi that the others have already tackled the fleeing Menlo and are preventing him from escaping further. But just in case, he prepares a sleep spell, in case he is putting up a fight or he managed to evade the others.
The prayer and the spell are forgotten when he turns the corner and spots Menlo's body, prone and with a javelin sticking out of him. "Oh, no!" he whispers, and hurries over to the body. It looks like the heart was pierced, but he holds out hope and tries to find the man's pulse.

Damned inconvenient, these paladins. Alonzo laughs. You were finally getting some exercise. A few more fleeing judges and you'll actually be in shape.
He stops laughing when they realize the man is dead. As Aerendyl threatens to bring him back, he cuts in. I think that's enough, Aerendyl. You cut the man down in cold blood rather than chase him. Raising his corpse to face your "justice" and make him wish he was dead goes a bridge too far. Let the dead rest.

Qurrak remain silent, not sure how to judge this alien situation. But there were no glory and honor here.

"How can you say that!?" Chesham snaps at Alonzo, eyes watering. However, he quickly regained his composure. "You two," he says, gesturing to the guards. "Take Menlo to the church for burial. As for you," he says to the adventurers. "I don't think I can reward you with the full 200 gold, as Draft was neither killed nor captured. But for your services to the town of Ren, I think I can spare 100 gold. And your medal, of course." He gestures to Qurrak. "However, there's...well, I don't want to use this terrible accident as leverage, or any of the sort. But, if...well...if you wish to make it up to me, there is a favor I might ask of you..."

He spat on the ground as he pulled his javelin from the side. "How many of his," he pointed at Menlo's dead body, "victims lay face down in the dirt, choking on their own blood, gasping as they thought of families they would never see again, while he counted his blood money, to satisfy his own greed." He paused, "He betrayed his own office, subverting justice with corruption and greed, he plotted against his Lord! He should have rotted in jail, his crimes brought to light, but we know the truth of it. Justice served."He turned to Chesham, and took a deep breath. "There is no leverage here Mayor, the man brought dishonor and shame upon your office. If you wish to redeem yourself, and restore honor to your office, and you wish our assistance to do so, I, for one, would be amendable to hearing your request. But do not assume that this is a tragedy," he indicated Menlo's body, "a rot has been removed from Ren, but it was your complacency that allowed the rot to fester."

"He may have been guilty, but that didn't mean he deserved to die," Daos says, getting to his feet and dusting off his robes. "And none of us have the right to decide who lives and dies. We spared a bandit and slew a judge. But what made one man more or less deserving of life than the other? Both were guilty of crimes. But Menlo didn't get a chance to tell us his sympathetic backstory." Looking directly to Aerendyl, he adds, "Take care that in your quest to fight evil, you don't fall to it, as well. Some of the worst evils done in this world were with the greatest of intentions."
To the mayor, Daos adds, "I, for one, offer my apologies for this. There's more than enough blame to go around, but I see no need to point fingers. What's done is done. But if there is anything I can do to help make up for this, I offer my services."

Ah, yes, his great and terrible crimes, so awful that they merited death. Of course, you did let the bandits that actually did the killing live. Not sure what made them redeemable, while this one wasn't. If you didn't want him dead, you could have just, you know, not thrown a javelin at him and let him be caught. And of course, whatever you do is justice, and necessary for the greater good. Not a tyrant's logic at all, no sir.
Mayor, I would glad to help as well. What can we do for the town?
