Draft laughs again. "I'm afraid my name's beyond clearing. We've got no future here in Parsall, but South Sealand could have a future for us crooks. As for Menlo, we can't help you with that. We had some letters from him, but they came with instructions to burn them, and someone thought it would be a good idea to follow his instructions." He glares at Ragdoll.
"Hey, I didn't burn all of them!" he fires back.
Draft looks shocked. "You didn't?"
Ragdoll reaches into his coat and pulls out some crumpled papers, which he tosses onto the table. Draft looks through them.
"Well, well, well...this certainly changes things. No signature or signet, of course, but it's his handwriting. Guess he didn't wanna risk anyone else knowing."
"Why didn't he just...type them?" Ragdoll asks. Draft gives him a look that screams "Ragdoll you idiot"

"May I?" Daos asks, reaching for the notes. He will look over them carefully. Even if it lacks a signature, there may be some kind of clue that implicates Menlo in some way.

Qurrak waitef silently. It was more nuanced situation, then he had exprience with, and if he could throw responsibility on others- he would.

"May I?" Daos asks, reaching for the notes. He will look over them carefully. Even if it lacks a signature, there may be some kind of clue that implicates Menlo in some way. The two notes read as follows: Dear Draft,
I have convinced the mayor to increase guard presence around the barracks, leaving the town bank free for robbery. I trust you will act quickly so as to divert suspicion off of me.
Dear Draft,
Ren's scouts have identified your hideout at Bandit's Cavern. Thankfully, I have it from the mayor himself that he'll look for mercenaries to combat you, which gives you some time to pack up and run for Sealand.

"This could be very incriminating," Daos agrees. "All we need is to acquire a sample of Menlo's handwriting for comparison, and we have a strong case. But there is one thing I don't understand. Why was Menlo aiding you in the first place? What did he get out of it? And why would he warn you of our coming, but then offer to pay us extra to make sure you are killed, even against the mayor's wishes?"

"He got a cut of the loot, and the added benefit of covering up his embezzling," Draft explains. "And as for the killing me, he was probably just covering his bases in case we didn't make it past the border. 'Course, that'd only work if we had the lack of good sense to follow his directions." He laughs.

"I see," Daos says, nodding. "So either we succeed and kill you for him, making sure the truth never gets out. Or we fail, and you flee, and are never heard from again. He really did have all of the angles covered."

You were, very clearly wronged. However, upon suffering these injustices, rather than walk the path of the righteous man, you chose the path of the criminal, turning to banditry. Assaulting and stealing from your fellows and your peers, you recruited these men to your cause and conducted these crimes." A pause anda sigh, "Menlo, however, is a criminal, and his actions deserve to be brought to light. But during this parlay you have been forthright and honest, so I wish to offer you a choice."Removing his hand from the hilt of his great sword, he pointed towards the man in front of them, "You surrender yourself to us, and we return to Ren, where you are tried for your crimes. During such trial, we speak in your defense, and reveal Menlo's crimes. Accepting the Court's justice as it is decreed. However, we allow your men to go free, so long as they agree borswear banditry." A shrug, "Or we allow you and your men to fade into the hills, leave Ren forever, and should we, in future, encounter you on the road and you have not abandoned your life of banditry, we will meet as enemies. No quarter asked, nor given."{Out of Character Actions}OOC: Rolling Persuasion, with Advantage, due to Daos' assistance. 1d20+4= 23;PzE0QHfU1d20+4, and with advantage, 1d20+4 = 8;1d20+4. "Well, I have a strong preference for option two," Draft says. "Are we in agreement?" He men all nod. "Well, then, do we have a deal?" he asks Aerendyl.

Qurrak is a bit, that there were no glory to harvest now. But it was a bit of a relief as well. He wasn't thrilled to marry. At least not her. And the company wasn't that bad. Very talky humans and elves, but they didn't looked down on him.

Flynn works his jaw back and forth, lips purses. It's not that Flynn wasn't happy with the outcome... but he had a feeling this was going to come back and bite them in the bottom.

Daos stands up. "Then I suppose all that is left to do is return to town. We'll need to come up with something to tell the mayor. And we'll need to somehow obtain a sample of Menlo's handwriting, to compare to these notes."

"The best lie is one that is not a lie at all. Perhaps we tell them we engaged the bandits and they fled the area, unlikely to ever come back. For me engaged, means conversed with... they are likely to think engaged means combat. We aren't lying at all. They will likely just misunderstand in a way that is beneficial to us."
