Aerendyl vaer Tharandiir, Paladin of BahamutHP:9 of 12 | AC: 15 | Perception: 12 | Insight: 12 | Inspiration: 0 Conditions: None.Aerendyl regarded Draft carefully, "I will be honest Draft, I am disappointed by your decision." A sigh. "I had hoped you were a man of character, who had the fortitude to accept responsibility for your wrong doings, and in so doing, show regard for your companions. It is my hope that you and yours take this second chance for what it is, a gift." He nodded towards the man, as Draft offered them hospitality, "And that you turn from the path of banditry before the debt you owe those you've wronged comes due."As Aerendyl turned, to begin setting up camp with his companions, "Let us be wary this evening, we do need to recuperate from our earlier encounter with the wolf pack, but I do feel as though we are not entirely out of danger, as of yet."

"Well, we probably won't get paid, but I believe we're doing the right thing," Daos says. To the paladin, he says, "We probably couldn't have pulled it off without you, and you haven't even told us your name yet."

Aerendyl vaer Tharandiir, Paladin of BahamutHP:9 of 12 | AC: 15 | Perception: 12 | Insight: 12 | Inspiration: 0 Conditions: None.Aerendyl paused, looking at Daos, a dark eyebrow arched up, a quizzical look on his face. "My name is Aerendyl vaer Tharandiir, devoted servant of Bahamut, Lord of the North Wind." He saluted, an out stretched hand, fingers curved almost in the shape of a claw, heod over his heart. "If my failure to introduce myself offends, you have my apologies. I am, as I mentioned to Draft, dusappointed he declined to return to face justice, but he dud provide us the means to root out the corruption infecting Ren, so our journey was not a complete failure."[/font]

"No offense taken," Daos replies. "We all have our secrets, and none of us are obligated to share anything we aren't comfortable sharing. But is good to have something to call you. Mentally, I've just been thinking of you as 'Mysterious Warrior.'"

"Are we ready to head back to town?" Once underway, Flynn begins humming a tune. After a few verses of humming, he bursts out into full song, hopefully to the annoyance of his brother.
"For she was his secret treasure.
She was his shame and his bliss.
For a chain and a keep are nothing.
Compared to a woman's kiss.
For hands of gold are always cold.
But a woman's hands are warm."

After a nice, long rest, the party awakes in the late hours of the morning. Draft and his men have already left, taking their loot with them. The journey back to Ren is, thankfully, uneventful. Menlo and Chesham are waiting inside the town hall.
"Ah! I trust you have dealt with the bandits?" the Mayor says.

Aerendyl vaer Tharandiir, Paladin of BahamutHP:12 of 12 | AC: 15 | Perception: 12 | Insight: 12 | Inspiration: 0 Conditions: None.On waking and noting that Draft and his men had already departed for parts unknown, Aerendyl gathered the remains of the camp, firewood, tarpaulin, tents, rope, and other debris and detritus left behind. Once collected into a small pile set it alight with flint and steel before turning and departing with his companions for Ren. Aerendyl shrugged, "They should not be bothering these parts again, we had an encounter with the man and his accomplices, however, when we came upon their camp we discovered it had been burned and they, departed for parts unknown." He turned towards the Judge, his face stony, "You will be disappointed to learn that we are not murderer's for hire, and that despite the Mayor's request to bring in Draft alive, we did not accept your counter offer to track him down and murder him."As he spoke to the Judge, he kept a careful watch on the Mayor to determine if he was, in fact, aware of the Judge's counter offer for Draft's death. {Out of Character Actions}OOC: My spiel is just there to help Flynn with his Diplomacy check so they can roll that sexy +7 with Advantage. Though if you want an Insight check to determine whether or not the Mayor knew about the Judge's side deal, it would be an Insight of 1d20+2= 15;aWPjD7Sc1d20+2. 1d20+2

Mayor Chesham looks to the Judge, hurt. "You went behind my back?"
"It was for the good of Ren!" he insists. "Simply imprisoning him-"
"I told you, execution solves nothing. You...just leave us," Chesham says angrily. Menlo gives the Mayor a glare and walks into the office.
He turns back to the party. "You may continue."

Alonzo grits his teeth for most of the song, steadily more annoyed until he can't hold it. What a splendid song. The quality of the singing is matched only by the sophistication of the writing. Somewhere, a bawdy house is missing its minstrel.
‐-----------
While the paladin occupies everyone's attention, Alonzo stands back, quietly looking around the room for anything that might have the judge's writing.

Flynn lets out a slight sigh, more to steady his nerves and prepare himself than anything. "My good mayor, we have more troubling news as well. A word in private please. Out of earshot of others, especially the judge? I know he went to his office, but I am not certain how thing the walls are. There is more he went behind your back on sir."
Assuming he steps away, or even if he does not, Flynn continues. "Honorable Mayor Chesham, Judge Menlo has been in league with the the bandits. He was sending correspondence to them letting them know who and when to attack for the most loot, which ones to avoid, and then receiving a cut. He wished to cover his track completely, hence why he wanted us to silence his witnesses. These letters will corroborate our story." Flynn waits for the letters to be handed over and the mayor to review them. The amount we were offered also seems like an excessive amount that could have only come from ill-gotten gains."

Daos turns over the letters to the mayor. "I'm afraid so, my lord. While the letters lack a signature, you should be able to compare them to Judge Menlo's handwriting easily enough."

Mayor Chesham examines the letters closely, then sighs and shakes his head. "Yes, this is Menlo's handwriting," he says. "And he divulges information I didn't tell anyone else. Please, come with me." He gestures for the party and the two guards to follow him into the office. He holds up the letters to the judge and says, "Sir, I hereby pronounce you under arrest for aiding and abetting banditry." Menlo takes a look at the group of armed soldiers standing behind him and jumps out the window.
