The next six days pass in relative peace. The party stays at the Hearthglow Inn during this time, relaxing and preparing for their next expedition.
Kalana Ioane, still struggling with her own fears of the past despite the feyr being destroyed, spends her days working and her nights partying. During the day, she seeks out information on the Tiaru but finds little. She also visits Flinn and Rose over in the refugee camp. Rose certainly doesn't mind all the extra attention from Kalana and Senllip, and Flinn is certainly happy to have someone look after her so he can have a break now and again. It's not easy being a single father, after all. She also works to restock the ship with food and grog and hire on some additional crewmen. Finally, she looks into a specific person from the island of Gunn, but learns nothing. She is uncertain if that is more or less troubling than hearing something.
During the night, Kalana seeks distractions and stress relief. The people of Serenity aren't the most rambunctious of people, but oddly enough, Kalana manages to find some people to carouse with--the Red Hawks, of all people. She goes on something of a bender with them, drinking each other under the table, telling wild stories of their adventures, and so forth, and they basically pay for all of it, happy to have an attractive and interesting woman to party with. The bad feelings of her kicking them out of the Azure Palace are forgiven, and by the end of it, they even consider her an honorary member. In fact, after she lets slip that the party will be sailing to Tu'Valie soon, they offer to pay for passage there. They've heard the folk there are in need of adventurers, and Serenity is a pretty boring town for them. The four of them offer to pay 10 GP each. Although the Blue Moon does not have passenger quarters, the cargo hold is completely empty, so there's plenty of room down there for four passengers. She accepts, although is worried they might not be on their best behavior, despite their insincere promises otherwise.
Senllip Browndoor divides his time between visiting Flinn and Rose over in the refugee camp and searching the city for information. He is happy to see that Rose does seem to be improving. She is sleeping more peacefully now. However, she still does not speak. It will likely take months or even years of therapy to get her back to that point. But with the feyr gone, she has a chance to get better now. His information gathering doesn't go as well. He can't seem to find any sort of thief's guild in the city to connect with; it's like the whole town is crime free. But he does learn that Tu'Valie is still in ruins. Most of the monsters have been cleared away, but there are still some parts of the city that remain occupied. The city is hiring adventurers to help clear out the rest, so rebuilding can begin. He also learns that the attack itself sounds exactly like the one made on the city of Deimos, on the island of Mond, a few years ago. That is, reports of fire raining down from the sky, the dead rising, and lots of slaadi appearing.
Jaeron Dernfog spends most of the week alone, in his room, writing in his book. Despite the success of their time in Serenity, he feels somewhat despondent and unsure of himself, his place on the ship, or his future. He takes his meals alone, and the only time the others see him is when he charts the course to Tu'Valie. The only bright spot is the knowledge that he may get to see Samwen again once they are in Tu'Valie. It will be nice to be back in Gonto's presence, even if it was a rather dinky temple last time he saw it.
Imrich Irrlicht spends a bit of time celebrating, although not to the level Kalana does. Mostly a few quiet drinks at night, just speaking with some locals to pass the time. He also does some shopping--restocking his dart supply--and sends off a letter home. It may be awhile before he hears back, but hopefully he will get a response by the time the party finishes their business in Tu'Valie.
Today is Dymin 7th, 316. It's a pleasant enough morning, around 9 AM, with clear skies and a decent breeze from the east. The four of them have a nice breakfast at the inn, then head for the newly christened 'Blue Moon.' The repairmen have done a lot, but the ship still isn't fully repaired. It can't be helped, though. It would cost about a thousand more gold to get it back into shape, and even if they had it, they are itching to move on anyway. They'll just have to be careful about avoiding combat on their way to Hashadeth.
The four meet on the deck as the last of the cargo is being loaded into the hold. All that remains is for the new crewmen and the passengers to arrive.
Thus, it is something of a surprise when the first person to approach the gangplank is none other than Saren. "Good morning!" he calls. "Permission to come aboard?"
