CH. 17 - Spring Fling

[Daos]

"Perhaps someone whose status is too low for it to matter?" Zesk wonders.

[GravityEmblem]

"Careful what you say around these Gontorians. You know how they feel about change," Lillian whispers, mostly as a joke.

[Daos]

Unakite shrugs noncommittally.  "You were the one who brought up changing the world.  And anyway, they think I'm quite mad already."  Suddenly, she leaps toward the guards and shouts, "OOGA-BOOGA!" while wiggling her fingers and sticking out her tongue.  The guards remain fairly stoic, although they perhaps tighten the grip on their spears slightly.

[HorizonsDream]

"I haven't actually ventured outside of the castle," Ladonna admits. She didn't see the point in doing so. "Even a knight, like myself, would have a problem with reputation. I'm basically the bottom of the barrel."

[Daos]

"Hardly the bottom," Zesk points out.  "Commoners are beneath you, and I suppose bastards would be the very bottom.  Well, at least as far as humans go."

[HorizonsDream]

"I'm the bottom when it comes to noble ranks," Ladonna points out. "The point is, even of someone of the lowest bottom rank would suffer for marrying an elf."

[Daos]

"Oh, well, if it must be a noble, then that is difficult," Zesk agrees.  "But still, not impossible.  After all, my father married an orc.  So stranger things have happened.  Did you have any candidates at all in mind?"

[GravityEmblem]

"Careful, now," Lillian jokes. "You don't want to scare them too badly."

[Daos]

"We're not scared," the first guard meekly objects.

"Just freaked out," mutters the second guard.

Turning back to her, Unakite says, "It is no matter, regardless.  You survived, as I knew you would.  You still must fulfill your destiny, after all."

[HorizonsDream]

"Norris was a candidate for a little bit, but that didn't work out well," Ladonna says. "And I've met a few single people within the courts, but I don't think any of them would go for her, so the short answer is no," Ladonna says.

[Daos]

"Ah, yes, Norris Sern is recently betrothed," Zesk remembers.  "But who were the others you considered?"

[GravityEmblem]

"Oh? I wasn't aware I had a destiny," Lillian says, suddenly also freaked out.

[Daos]

"I thought all Gontorians believed in destiny," Unakite remarks.  "Do you not believe you will one day change the world?"

[GravityEmblem]

"...yes, I do," Lillian says after some hesitation. "After all I've been through, and with ambitions as lofty as mine, I can't imagine leading life that doesn't make its mark."

[Daos]

"Exactly, and you've lived, what, 40 years?  And done nothing at all.  So therefore, you must be meant to keep living," Unakite reasons.  "Otherwise, it was all a waste."  She randomly climbs up onto the table in the middle of the room and paces around on it.
