Sonoma rubbed at her belly as she got up. She didn't know if she could handle this for much longer. After stretching and running her fingers through her hair, Sonoma put on Chevis' boots and stepped out of the shack she was staying in.
It was cold out, but Sonoma was getting use to it little by little as she walked into town. She didn't really have any real direction other than just looking around to get a better idea of where everything was.

Despite the late hour, there seemed little activity in the village today. Sonoma did not see many people going about their business or walking the roads.
She headed south on a whim, passing by a couple of farms and one building that smelled strongly of leather. A sign was posted outside of it, but she could not read it.

Sonoma walks over to the leather shop, figuring that is where she could get some shoes of her own when she gets the money. She opens the door and steps inside, taking a moment to enjoy what warmth there is in there. "Um, hello?" she asks, taking a moment to look around.

Standing behind the counter is a thin, lanky man with long, shaggy brown hair and an unkempt beard. He has on a leather apron over his fairly plain looking, brown and grey clothes. He was sitting on a stool, a plate of meat and bread and a glass of water on the counter. He quickly stands up when the door enters, brushing crumbs off his apron.
Sonoma's eyes lock with his blue eyes, and he smiles warmly. "Welcome! I didn't expect any customers during the service. Largo's the name, leather's the game," he says, gesturing to the various leather items on shelves or hanging on the wall and even ceiling in his shop. There are leather breast plates, shoes, boots, helms, aprons, saddles, gloves, and just about anything else Sonoma could conceive of.

"Wow," Sonoma says as she looks at all the leather items. "Leather really is your game," she says with a grin. "I'm Sonoma," she adds. "And I'm just looking for some shoes."

Largo's gaze drops down to her feet and he grins. "Ah, yes, I can see why. Those boots look older than me."
He approaches, and Sonoma realizes that like everything else in this shop, he smells strongly of leather. "What did you have in mind? Boots are practical in this weather, but some ladies prefer something more feminine in nature."

"Well, I guess I need to be practical," Sonoma says. "While I would like to be, um feminine I think I'm going to need to go with boots. Of course, I kind of have to afford them too," she says. "So I should probably start off with how much a pair of boots would cost."

"Well, there are two main types of boots," Largo explains. "Soft boots, which cost a token for a pair, and riding boots. The riding boots cost more, three tokens, but they are sturdier, more comfortable, and better for long walks...if you travel a great deal."
It's clear he knows what he is talking about, but a whole token? A token is 100 pennies, and Sonoma only makes 5 pennies a day. She'd have to work twenty days with no eating, baths, or any other expenses to afford that!

Sonoma looks a little disappointed once she hears the price. "...I...I can't even afford that," she says, sounding a little dejected by the whole thing. "But at least I know, so I guess that kind of helps. I don't suppose there would be any way I could...like work for a pair of boots is there?" she asks curiously.

Largo blinks. "Work? Doing what? What can you do?" he asks, perplexed. "Do you have any money at all?"

"Well, I don't know. What do you need done around here?" Sonoma asks curiously. "I don't really know what I can do until I try it," she explained. "I know I can do the basic stuff like cleaning. As for money...I might as well say I don't have any."

Gently taking her by the elbow, he leads up to the counter and lets her take a seat. "Sounds like there's a story behind that. I don't know you, I assumed you were a visitor. But surely you couldn't have made it this far with no money?"
Despite the overpowering stench of leather all around her, the smell of the food on the plate a few feet away seems to flood her nostrils, taunting her.

Sonoma looks down at the food almost pathetically, but she forces herself to look at Largo. "There isn't a whole lot of story," she admits. "I remember walking, a lot of walking on my bare feet," she explains. "After what seemed like years to me, I heard a voice and then I passed out. I woke up in someone's bed with my feet bandaged. I could only remember my name, or at least what I think is my name. I had nothing but the clothes on my back and a word that might or might not be my name."

Largo's blue eyes light up in understanding. "Ahhhh, you are the one...the tribal girl who wandered into town a few days ago. I remember hearing about that. You truly remember nothing? Your tribe, your home...all of it, forgotten? It's hard to imagine such a thing."

"It is hard to imagine, even when you are the one that is affected by it," Sonoma admits. "I don't understand how I can't remember anything about myself. It is weird," she admits with a small sigh. "But now I'm staying with Chevis, and since I didn't want to be a burden to him I decided to get a job. I thought it would be a great thing, but it isn't turning out to be so great."
