The teaser dropped for The Marvels and it looks like a blast.

Also, a new CGI Resident Evil movie coming out, Dead Island.
I unironically love these films and have all of them on DVD. They are pure cheese.

I saw two movies last night. First was Shazam 2, Fury of the Gods. I don't think I've watched the original since it was released, so my memory was a little bit fuzzy. But it mostly came back to me. Anyway, it was fun, especially seeing Lucy Liu hamming it up. The second was the new Super Mario Bros movie. Of the two, I liked this one more. It was super cute and a lot of fun throughout. Jack Black's Bowser was perfect. And the final battle sequence was a blast. I kind of want to watch it again, in fact.

I finally got around to watching Antman 3: Quantumania last night. It was a lot of fun. I love the side of the MCU that leans more toward cosmic weirdness, although this was inner space instead of outer space.

Anyone seen anything good lately? I have a few films on my list that I haven't gotten around to seeing yet, including the new Spiderverse, the new Transformers and Elemental. I'm also looking forward to the new TMNT film coming out next month, as well as the new Resident Evil and the Babylon 5 animated film.

Oh, I can't believe I forgot to mention it, but my D&D group and I saw the D&D movie a month or two ago. It wasn't a masterpiece or anything, and it didn't really do anything big or special with the D&D premise (like having the whole movie be an actual game played by Chris Pine and friends), but it was a bit of fun. There were a bunch of cool nods to D&D/Forgotten Realms stuff, but the little references to how people actually play D&D really tickled my fancy. {Spoiler} For example, Zenk totally being an NPC ally, or the overcomplicated puzzle which the party immediately breaks. All the stuff about making plans, too. My favorite part of DMing is watching the players make a plan, and then execute it.

Yeah, I saw that awhile back, too. Guess I forgot to mention it.
I liked it. It was certainly better than the last D&D movie I saw, but that's a pretty low bar to clear, admittedly. Although it was really more of a Forgotten Realms movie than a D&D movie (but same thing as far as WotC is concerned these days, I guess).
Apparently Zenk was a last minute substitute. The entire character was supposed to have been Drizzt Do'Urden.

I've seen a handful of movies the past few weeks. Four weeks ago I saw Resident Evil Dead Island. It was as cheesy and ridiculous as one would expect from these films. Although it was nice to see the entire main cast team up at once, for the first time ever. Three weeks ago I saw Across the Spider-Verse. Much like its predecessor, it was incredible. Two weeks ago I saw Nimona. Having never read the comic it was based on, I went in fairly blind, with only a vague idea of what it even was about. And I was pleasantly surprised. It had a lot of heart. And it's always interesting to see a fantasy setting that develops, technology-wise, over time. Last week I saw Transformers Rise of the Beasts. It was...kind of busy. Way too many characters. And the third act was a mess. But still better than Bay's original films, and considerably less racist, as well.

I saw Across the Spider-Verse recently, and I didn't like it at all. Mostly because I didn't like the ending, and the emotional conflicts hit WAY too close to my own experiences. Watching that movie hurt.

I watched Renfield recently. It was rather hmm... interesting. It was fun to watch but not quite as humorous as I had expected from the trailers.

Last week, I saw Babylon 5: The Road Home, the new animated film. It was nostalgic, to say the least. Also they did an amazing job on recasting all the dead actors. Some of them sounded so much like the originals, I wouldn't have even realized they had been replaced if I hadn't known better. (The woman who voiced Delenn was particularly good.) And last night I watched TMNT Mutant Mayhem, which was exactly as charming as I was hoping it would be. And as a Leonardo fan, I was quite pleased with his portrayal in this continuity.
