"Of course. Who other?" asks the cleric matter-of-factually.
"In my own experience, bandits usually operate in groups larger than four. It is very likely they have a base somewhere, where more of them wait to ambush other travelers," Iroas explains. "Knowing where this base is might be useful to protect against future attacks. And besides, Ilmater teaches that all creatures are worthy of being given a second chance, to allow for redemption. Even goblins."
"It may be worthwhile to check and see if there's any clues about them," Iroas adds.

And besides, Ilmater teaches that all creatures are worthy of being given a second chance, to allow for redemption. Even goblins." "It may be worthwhile to check and see if there's any clues about them," Iroas adds. Djandaar merely scowls when Iroas confirms that he was responsible for getting the dragonborn back on his feet. He deliberately avoids making eye contact with the cleric of Ilmater when he goes on to explain why they should spare the life of the remaining goblin, but he doesn't attempt to argue. When Iroas has finished speaking, however, Djanaar ignores his suggestion to study the dead horses' remains and instead steps into the surrounding brush, studying the ground for possible clues about which direction the goblins might have approached from. (OOC: To be clear, he refrains from killing the sole surviving goblin after being faced with Iroas's adamance that the creature might yet serve some use.)

Orianna starts checking through the goblin's stuff to see if they can learn anything from what they might be carrying.

After tying up the one surviving goblin, Orianna searches her things, as well as the things of the three dead goblins. Each goblin carries a scimitar, a short bow, about a dozen arrows each (minus the ones shot in battle), leather armor, and small shields. None of them carry any coin, provisions, or even waterskins.

While he disapproves of Djandaar's cold-blooded murder of the sleeping goblins, Fosco figures he might as well assist him in looking around the area.

"They don't have much on them other than armor and weapons," Orianna says to the others. "If they are working with others, they are close by."

After failing to find any sign of where the goblins might have come from, Djandaar trundles back down to the road. "Don't see why we're bothering ourselves about these other hypothetical goblins. I see no sign of them, and they're not storming out of the woods to attack us -- if they were nearby, they likely saw what happened to their brethren and bolted. Let's just drag these horses to the side of the road and be off...that's what the old man's paying us for." He walks up to the nearest dead horse, lets out a faint 'huff' as if pitying himself for taking up such a demeaning task, and starts dragging the animal's corpse off to the side.

Searching the area, Fosco finds a trail hidden behind the thickets on the north side of the road, leading northwest. He also recognizes that about a dozen goblins have come and gone along this trail, as well as signs of two human-sized bodies being hauled away from the ambush site.
Djann returns to the horses and starts dragging them off the road. Luckily, their saddlebags, both bearing a heraldic emblem, have been looted, so that makes the task a little easier. He is able to clear the road in this way.

“Everybody!” Fosco shouts. “I found a trail; I think it’s how the goblins got here. Also, it looks like they dragged some people back through there.”

Orianna smirks upon hearing the news. "And that is why we are bothering to look," she points out to the dragonborn. "Two dead horses means that there are probably some people in trouble, and sure enough that seems to be the case. Now the question is, what do we do? We can't exactly leave the stuff we are escorting."

"Hmm, possibly the owners of these horses, whoever they are," Iroas speculates. "If they were taken, they may still be alive then."
"I don't know if it's safe to leave anyone behind, either. Perhaps move the wagon off the trail, into the brush, where passersby are less likely to see it," the cleric suggests.

Djan seems bemused with the way this conversation is heading. He looks at the dead horses, then the saddle bag, then turns his gaze over to Orianna, and finally to Iroas. "This is a well-traveled road. Even if we push the caravan off into the bushes, there's no guarantee it will remain here while we're off on this goblin-chase you all seem to be proposing. Why don't we see to getting these goods safely to Phandalin, as we promised, and then on the way back you can hunt bandits to your heart's content? I must insist that our contractual obligations come first."

"Well, a job is a job," Iroas agrees. "But if innocent lives are at stake, I feel we have some obligation to assist. But I will abide by the group's decision." He looks to the halfling and tieflings. "What say the rest of you on this matter?"

"While I agree that our obligation is important, I think we should help those that were taken by the goblins. By the time we get back from delivering our goods, they could be dead. We should do something about it now."
